Job summary

Piper Alderman is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join the finance team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. Reporting to the CFO, you will oversee financial accounting, planning and reporting, budgeting, forecasting, taxation, treasury and accounts receivable functions.

As a senior leader, you will partner with the CFO, Managing Partner and executive committee to provide trusted financial insight, strengthen governance and support informed strategic decisions across the firm.

Qualifications

• CA or CPA qualification and a Bachelor of Commerce or equivalent.
• Minimum 10 years’ post‑graduate experience in a senior finance or financial control role.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with executives and committees.
• Demonstrated experience in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management.
• Proven leadership of a finance team and ability to foster continuous improvement.
• Knowledge of accounting standards and Australian taxation requirements.
• Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with financial systems and reporting platforms.
• Experience in a professional services or partnership environment is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Oversee financial planning and reporting: monthly statements, budgets, rolling forecasts and management packs.
• Lead financial accounting, compliance, taxation obligations, BAS/FBT, and audit processes.
• Provide financial analysis and commercial advice to CFO, partners and executives.
• Manage treasury, liquidity, banking relationships and debt covenants.
• Oversee Accounts Receivable, WIP and collections; drive credit management improvements.
• Champion Delegation of Authority, policy compliance and financial controls.
• Lead and develop the Finance and Accounts Receivable teams.
• Identify opportunities to improve systems, processes and reporting.
