The Finance team manages SVA’s financial operations. As a member of the Connect Team, including People and Culture, Brand, Marketing and Communications, Legal, Risk and Compliance, Office, Information and Technology, the Finance team works to support business areas across the organisation, ensuring SVA’s work is consistently and professionally delivered in line with our strategy.

Job Description

Position Purpose

This role is being offered on a 12-month fixed-term basis as Parental Leave cover. Applications from Sydney and Melbourne will be considered. The Senior Finance Manager is responsible for managing SVA’s financial operations, with critical accountabilities across financial and management accounting, budgeting and forecasting, cashflow management, AP and AR, and payroll.

They play an essential role in ensuring SVA is meeting its statutory and reporting obligations by designing and embedding risk and compliance controls and overseeing the delivery of SVA’s annual audit.

They act as the owner of SVA’s financial systems and processes, partnering with internal and external stakeholders to ensure SVA and the Finance team are operating efficiently and effectively to deliver impact at scale.

Position responsibilities

Financial Operations Management

  • Manage day-to-day operations across accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll functions
  • Manage relationships with external service providers e.g., SVA’s external auditor, business bank, outsourced payroll provider, Corporate Traveller and Concur
  • Ensure internal and external inquiries and requests for information are appropriately directed, preparing and delegating responses within the Finance team as needed
  • Ensure banking accounts, access, and payment processes are properly maintained, secure, and compliant
  • Authorise financial transactions in line with financial delegation and internal policy
  • Act as primary system owner for SVA’s expense management system and its interfaces with other software e.g., Certinia Accounting (previously Financial Force Accounting) and Professional Services Automation (PSA)

Planning, Reporting and Compliance

  • Coordinate and deliver periodic budgets and forecasts
  • Deliver month-end management accounts, analysis, and reporting to business units
  • Oversee completion of month-end journals and balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring timely delivery
  • Deliver critical year-end activities including year-end financial statements, key accounting position papers, and SVA’s annual review calculations, ensuring compliance with Australian Accounting Standards
  • Manage the delivery of the SVA annual audit, coordinating the Finance team to work with external auditors and ensure timely and accurate completion
  • Oversee the preparation of Business Activity Statement (BAS) and Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) for leadership approval
  • Ensure timely provision of financial information to SVA Legal for core risk and compliance activities e.g., worker’s compensation, insurance renewals, Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) and fundraising requirements
  • Prepare reports and information for Finance, Audit, and Risk (FAR) committees and the SVA Board

Business Partnering and Projects

  • Proactively build strategic relationships across business areas
  • Analyse and share insights with senior stakeholders including budget owners and the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) to help guide operational and strategic decision making
  • Educate and support stakeholders across the organisation with the use of finance systems e.g., Certinia
  • Design and deliver business improvement projects e.g., technology and infrastructure improvements to improve team efficiency and effectiveness

Leadership and Management

  • Lead and manage the Finance team, helping to mentor and grow junior team members whilst overseeing day-to-day operations
  • Together with the CFO, manage team resources to ensure timely, accurate and value-adding delivery
  • Model the SVA values, ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for everyone at SVA

Special requirements

Interstate travel to non-resident office (Sydney or Melbourne) may be required.

Desired Skills and Experience

Person requirements

To effectively perform this position, the person will require the following:

Knowledge

  • Advanced technical knowledge of financial and management accounting reporting, policies and practices
  • Budgeting principles
  • Financial operational controls and practices
  • Australian tax framework including Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) and Goods and Services Tax (GST)
  • Applicable non-profit related legislation and reporting requirements (desirable)

Experience

  • Consolidated experience in management accounting, financial analysis, and other internal reporting
  • Experience preparing accurate and informative financial statements and other external reporting
  • Proven experience delivering month-end and year-end activities, ensuring high-quality outputs
  • Demonstrated experience supporting the delivery of financial audits
  • Direct experience participating in company budget and forecast processes
  • Experience with Certinia (preferred) or similar accounting systems, Salesforce (preferred) or similar CRM databases
  • Experience managing and mentoring team members
  • Proven experience partnering with a range of stakeholders, with differing levels of financial literacy

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in relevant field e.g., Accounting or other equivalent
  • CA or CPA qualified, including meeting CPD requirements

  • Sound commercial acumen, linking business drivers to financial structures and performance
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to successfully engage with internal and external stakeholders
  • Flexibility in thinking and pragmatic problem-solving skills
  • Analytical skills, drawing on financial data and information to provide insights that support organisational decision making
  • Advanced Excel skills, including for management reporting and financial/cashflow modelling
  • Strong attention to detail, to deliver accurate information and derive meaningful insights
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines with strong time management and decision-making skills
  • Developing leadership skills, effectively supporting team members to grow
