Job summary

BMD Group is seeking a Senior Estimator to join its national Precontracts team, leading complex first-principles estimates for major infrastructure projects valued from $50 million to $500 million+. Working with bid, commercial and operational teams, you will help secure transport, water, defence and renewable energy projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead the review and interpretation of tender documentation, design drawings, specifications and contractual requirements.
• Develop comprehensive first-principles estimates for major civil infrastructure projects.
• Establish winning estimating methodologies and bid strategies across diverse market sectors.
• Manage quantity take-offs, pricing build-ups and estimate verification processes to ensure accuracy and consistency.
• Drive risk and opportunity assessments, commercial assumptions and contingency development.
• Lead subcontractor and supplier engagement, including market testing, scope reviews and commercial evaluations.
• Provide commercial and contractual input across Design & Construct, EPC, Alliance and Construct-Only delivery models.
• Partner with operational teams to validate construction methodologies, resource assumptions and delivery strategies.
• Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of estimating systems, benchmarking tools and digital processes.
• Mentor and support estimating team members, sharing expertise and fostering continuous improvement.
• Support executive tender reviews, client presentations and major bid submissions.

About The Role

An exciting opportunity exists for an accomplished Senior Estimator to join BMD's national Precontracts team. In this pivotal role, you will lead the preparation and delivery of complex first-principles estimates for major infrastructure projects typically ranging from $50 million to $500 million and beyond. Working alongside highly experienced bid, commercial and operational teams, you will help secure some of Australia's most significant transport, water, defence and renewable energy projects.

We Are Seeking Someone Who

• Extensive estimating experience across major civil infrastructure sectors such as transport, water, defence and renewable energy.
• A demonstrated history of delivering competitive first-principles estimates on projects valued from $50 million to $500 million+.
• Strong understanding of construction methodologies, project delivery models and commercial risk.
• Practical site-based construction experience and the ability to develop realistic and buildable solutions.
• Leadership experience within estimating or bid teams, including mentoring and capability development.
• Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical, operational and commercial disciplines.
• A commitment to continuous improvement, accuracy and delivering high-quality outcomes.
