Job summary

BMD Group in Sydney is seeking a Senior Estimator to lead the development, review and delivery of first-principles estimates for major civil infrastructure tenders typically ranging from $50 million to $500 million and beyond.

You will work within the Precontracts team, supporting pursuits across transport infrastructure, water, defence and renewable energy projects, helping secure landmark Australian infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Lead the review and interpretation of tender documentation, drawings, specifications and contractual requirements.
• Prepare, review and consolidate detailed first-principles estimates for major infrastructure projects.
• Develop winning estimating strategies across transport, water, defence and renewable energy opportunities.
• Direct quantity take-offs, pricing build-ups and verification processes to ensure accuracy and consistency.
• Drive risk and opportunity assessments, commercial assumptions and contingency development.
• Lead supplier and subcontractor engagement strategies, including market testing, scope alignment and quote analysis.
• Provide commercial and contractual input across Design & Construct, EPC, Alliance and Construct-Only delivery models.
• Partner with operational teams to validate methodologies, construction approaches and resource assumptions.
• Enhance estimating systems, benchmarking databases, templates and digital workflows.
• Coach, mentor and support estimators, helping build capability and consistency across the estimating function.
• Support bid presentations, client engagement activities and executive tender reviews.

About The Role

As a Senior Estimator, you will play a pivotal role in leading the development, review and delivery of first-principles estimates for major civil infrastructure tenders typically ranging from $50 million to $500 million and beyond. Working within BMD's Precontracts team, you will support pursuits across our strategic growth sectors, including transport infrastructure, water, defence and renewable energy projects, helping secure the next generation of landmark projects across Australia.

• Extensive experience estimating major civil infrastructure projects across transport, water, defence and renewable energy sectors.
• Proven track record delivering competitive first-principles estimates on projects valued from $50 million to $500 million+.
• Strong commercial acumen and understanding of construction methodologies, risk and project delivery.
• Site-based construction experience that informs practical and buildable estimating solutions.
• Leadership experience developing estimating teams and driving bid performance.
• A collaborative approach with the ability to influence stakeholders and help secure landmark infrastructure projects.
