Job summary

BMD Group in Brisbane is seeking an experienced Estimator to support pre-contract tendering for civil construction and infrastructure projects. You will work with the estimating, planning and commercial teams to develop accurate, competitive cost estimates that align with project delivery strategies.

Reporting to a Senior Estimator, you will perform first-principles estimating, quantity take-offs, pricing build-ups and cost allowances, while reviewing drawings and tender documents.

Qualifications

  • Estimating experience within civil construction or infrastructure.
  • Experience with first-principles estimates.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and tender documents.
  • Experience completing quantity take-offs and pricing build-ups.
  • Understanding of direct costs, indirect costs and preliminaries.
  • Ability to assess supplier and subcontractor quotations.
  • Awareness of construction methodology, project risk and cost drivers.
  • Strong attention to detail and disciplined checking.
  • Ability to organise priorities and meet tender deadlines.
  • Clear communication and collaborative working skills.
  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Experience with Expert Estimation, CATS, CostX or comparable estimating software will be highly regarded.

Responsibilities

  • Review tender documents, drawings, specifications and schedules.
  • Assist with establishing the estimate structure, assumptions and pricing approach.
  • Prepare first-principles estimates for civil infrastructure projects.
  • Complete and check quantity take-offs and pricing build-ups.
  • Develop direct-cost, indirect-cost and preliminary cost allowances.
  • Prepare pricing enquiries for suppliers, subcontractors and plant providers.
  • Review quotations and compare scope, exclusions and commercial alignment.
  • Identify scope gaps, pricing risks, opportunities and key cost drivers.
  • Attend site inspections, tender meetings and relevant workshops.
  • Work with construction teams to understand methodology and resourcing.
  • Support alignment between the estimate, programme and delivery approach.
  • Maintain accurate assumptions, calculations and supporting documentation.
  • Contribute to estimate reviews and complete agreed review actions.
  • Support tender submissions, clarifications and post-tender activities.
  • Prepare handover information for successful tenders.
  • Build productive relationships with internal teams and supply-chain partners.

About the Role

Join BMD’s Brisbane Pre-contracts team as an Estimator and contribute to the preparation of competitive, commercially sound tenders across a diverse pipeline of civil construction and infrastructure opportunities. Reporting to a Senior Estimator, you will support estimates from the initial review of tender documents through pricing, internal review, submission and project handover. About You
