Job summary

Next Step Surveying is seeking a Senior Engineering / Project Surveyor to take ownership of engineering and project surveying capability on the Sunshine Coast. You will deliver projects, work directly with clients and support our survey team, with a path to build a team and lead this space within the company.

You will mentor surveyors, develop systems, and help grow the project portfolio while maintaining strong client relationships and delivering high-quality results across civil infrastructure

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Surveying, Spatial Science, Geomatics or similar.
• Strong engineering and construction surveying experience.
• Experience with civil infrastructure or land development projects.
• Proficient with 12d and Trimble Business Center.

Next Step Surveying is looking for an experienced Senior Engineering / Project Surveyor who wants more than their next surveying job.

We are looking for someone who wants the opportunity to take ownership of our Engineering and Project Surveying capability and help build it into a key part of our business.

This is a hands-on senior role initially—you'll be delivering projects, working directly with clients and supporting our survey team. But the opportunity is much bigger than that.

For the right person, we want this role to develop into leading this space within Next Step Surveying—building client relationships, growing a project portfolio, developing systems, mentoring surveyors and ultimately building a team around you.

Key responsibilities

• Lead engineering and construction surveying projects
• Conduct civil infrastructure and land development surveys
• Establish and maintain survey control networks
• Perform construction set-out and verification
• Conduct feature and detail surveys
• Perform earthworks and volume surveys
• Conduct as-constructed and conformance surveys
• Support machine control and machine guidance
• Work with digital engineering and model-based workflows
• Review survey calculations, surfaces, models and deliverables
• Plan project resources and survey activities
• Monitor project budgets and productivity
• Manage survey data and project records
• Work directly with clients, engineers and construction teams
• Identify project risks before they become problems
• Mentor Surveyors and Survey Technicians
• Improve the systems and processes used to deliver work

About you

• Operating at Senior Surveyor or Project Surveyor level and ready for greater responsibility and autonomy
• Tertiary qualification in Surveying, Spatial Science, Geomatics or similar
• Strong engineering and construction surveying experience
• Experience delivering civil infrastructure and/or land development projects
• Strong construction set-out and as-constructed experience
• Advanced capability with GNSS, robotic total stations and modern surveying equipment
• Strong understanding of survey control and engineering survey methodology
• Experience with machine control, digital engineering and earthworks
• Strong survey software and data processing capability - 12d & Trimble Business Center
• Ability to review and QA survey calculations and deliverables
• Strong project planning and organisational skills
• Confidence dealing directly with clients, engineers and construction teams
• Ability to mentor and develop less-experienced surveyors
• Commercial mindset and understanding that successful projects need to deliver technically and financially
• 38-hour ordinary working week
