Job summary

The University of Queensland’s School of Chemical Engineering invites applications for a position supporting undergraduate and postgraduate laboratory teaching across chemical, biological, environmental, and metallurgical engineering.

The role involves developing and maintaining teaching labs, supporting practical classes, and contributing to a high‑quality student experience in a globally connected program.

Qualifications

• Qualifications in science or engineering; chemical engineering degree desirable.
• Experience in teaching/research laboratories including chemical prep, sampling and analysis.
• Knowledge of laboratory equipment, methodologies and practical teaching processes.
• Ability to conduct risk assessments and train staff in safe lab practices.
• Ability to explain and demonstrate practical activities to students and staff.
• Plan, organise and manage laboratory resources under varying workloads.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills in a collaborative environment.
• Proficiency with LabVIEW or similar data-logging software and digital control systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide advice on practical teaching capability and investments.
• Collaborate with course teams to develop and improve laboratory experiments.
• Coordinate scheduling, equipment and materials for lab classes.
• Maintain safety and compliance with university requirements in labs.
• Prepare and store teaching materials; manage consumables and equipment service.
• Induct students and staff into lab operations and safety procedures.
• Develop and maintain lab documentation and SOPs.
• Engage in school activities and outreach as needed.
