Job summary

EPC, partnered with Design & Build, seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer in Melbourne to lead secondary systems design for HV/EHV substations and renewables. You will deliver protection and control designs from concept through commissioning, balancing hands-on design with client interaction.

Ideal candidates have strong experience in protection relays, SCADA, and HV standards, with tertiary engineering qualifications and professional status (CPEng/EA preferred).

Qualifications

• Experience in secondary systems design for HV & EHV substations.
• Expertise in protection relays, control systems, and SCADA.
• Knowledge of AS/NZS 61850 and HV standards.
• Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering.
• CPEng (or EA membership) preferred.
• Strong communication and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead preparation of protection and secondary systems design packages.
• Develop and review schematics, logic diagrams, and specs.
• Coordinate with primary, civil, and drafting teams for alignment.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, QA, and client expectations.
• Support project delivery from design through testing and commissioning.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders, OEMs, and utilities as needed.

Design & Build has partnered with an established EPC business delivering major projects across power, renewables, and infrastructure.

You’ll take the technical lead on secondary systems for HV substations and renewable energy projects, delivering protection and control designs from concept through to commissioning.

This is a hands-on role with a balance of technical design, client interaction, and project input, perfect if you enjoy both detail and big-picture work.
