Job summary

Macquarie Engineers Pty Ltd in Newcastle NSW is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead a small team delivering electrical, instrumentation and automation services to industry. You will own projects from scope through delivery, acting as the direct client contact.

You'll combine hands-on design work with day-to-day project responsibility, focusing on electrical distribution, switchboards, motor starters, and PLC/SCADA systems while maintaining technical accuracy and client satisfaction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles, standards and regulations.
• 5+ years in electrical engineering design including distribution, switchboards and instrumentation.
• Experience with PLC control system design.
• Strong project management and organisational skills with clear written and verbal communication.

Macquarie Engineers is a Newcastle based electrical engineering consultancy delivering practical, high quality engineering solutions across a diverse range of projects.

As the business continues to grow, they are looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to be part of or lead a small team delivering high quality, customer focused electrical, instrumentation and automation services to industry. You'll take responsibility for projects, acting as the direct client point of contact throughout.

This is a role for someone who wants ownership over projects from scope through to delivery, enjoys the technical depth of electrical design and investigation, and is comfortable being the person clients rely on to get it right.

About the Role

Reporting to the Lead Electrical Engineer, you'll combine hands on design work with day to day project responsibility.

Your day to day will include:

• Designing electrical systems and investigating complex electrical issues, ensuring functionality, reliability and compliance with relevant standards and regulations
• Developing and implementing control systems for motor control applications, including PLC and SCADA based systems
• Creating and reviewing electrical schematics, diagrams, and technical and software specifications
• Taking responsibility for the delivery of projects, including acting as the client point of contact
• Liaising with lead engineers to ensure adequate resourcing to meet project timelines
• Managing project scope and deliverables against quoted works, and obtaining client approval for any out of scope work
• Monitoring project cost, progress and timing, and communicating any risks or delays to senior engineers or the project lead
• Preparing technical documentation, drawings and reports, and maintaining accurate project records

About You

We're looking for someone with solid experience in electrical engineering design and investigation, who is ready to take on project and client responsibility.

You’ll ideally have:

• A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
• Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles, standards and regulations
• Around five or more years' experience in electrical engineering design including electrical distribution, switchboards and motor starters, and instrumentation
• Experience with PLC control system design
• Strong project management and organisational skills, with clear written and verbal communication

Experience within the water, energy, mining or infrastructure sectors will be highly regarded, along with familiarity with project delivery methodologies and working within a consulting environment.
