Job summary

University of Queensland Press (UQP) is seeking a Senior Editor to independently manage editorial and production for a diverse portfolio of adult fiction, non-fiction and children's titles. You will work with authors, creatives and publishing professionals to deliver high-quality books that inform, inspire and connect communities.

The role reports to the Managing Editor and involves complex editing, writing marketing copy and collaborating with sales for title promotion, while upholding UQP's

Qualifications

• Tertiary degree in English, Journalism, or Communication or a Diploma in Editing and Publishing.
• Minimum three years in a trade publishing house or relevant editorial role.
• Experience evaluating and editing diverse material in structure and format.
• Strong project management from author contact to print.
• Advanced verbal and written communication; build relationships with authors and suppliers.
• Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines and within budget.
• Excellent time management and organisational skills.
• Projects often involve multiple competing tasks.

Responsibilities

• Independently project manage editorial and production lifecycle for multiple titles.
• Undertake structural editing, copy editing and manuscript assessment.
• Build relationships with authors, freelancers, designers, proofreaders and other partners.
• Write cover copy and marketing content; collaborate with sales and marketing for positioning.
