Job description

An opportunity has arisen to join an established, privately owned Sydney property developer with a strong pipeline of residential and mixed‑use projects. With an experienced leadership team and a growing focus on delivering large‑scale, high‑quality urban communities, the business is seeking a Senior Development Manager to take a leading role on a significant residential‑led mixed‑use development in Sydney.

This opportunity will suit an experienced Senior Development Manager who enjoys being involved from the early stages of a project, shaping development strategy, driving commercial outcomes and taking ownership across the development lifecycle. With a strong pipeline of projects ahead and a clear pathway towards Project Director, this is an opportunity to join a well‑supported development team and play an important role in the business's continued growth.

The Opportunity

You will take a leading role in progressing a major residential‑led mixed‑use development incorporating retail, public domain and a broader urban precinct. The project is at an early stage, providing the opportunity to influence its direction from the outset, with a focus on feasibility, planning strategy, design development and commercial optimisation.

Working closely with the Head of Development, Development Director and an experienced internal team, you will coordinate consultants, manage key development workstreams and drive the project through its early milestones. The role offers significant ownership and responsibility, while benefiting from the support and structure of an established development business.

Key Accountabilities
  • Lead key development workstreams across a significant residential‑led mixed‑use project from early‑stage feasibility through planning, design and approvals
  • Manage and interrogate development feasibilities, financial models and project budgets to support commercial decision‑making
  • Drive planning and approval strategies, working closely with planning consultants, authorities and relevant stakeholders
  • Oversee design development and coordinate multidisciplinary consultant teams to achieve commercial, planning and project objectives
  • Identify opportunities to optimise project value, manage development risks and improve commercial outcomes
  • Coordinate retail, residential and public domain considerations to ensure an integrated approach to the broader precinct
  • Manage project programmes, consultant deliverables, development budgets and key milestones
  • Work collaboratively with internal construction and delivery teams to ensure early‑stage decisions support successful project execution
  • Prepare development reports, feasibility updates and recommendations for senior leadership
Why This Role
  • Take a leading role on a significant residential‑led mixed‑use development from an early stage
  • Join an established private developer with a strong pipeline of projects across Sydney
  • Work alongside a highly regarded Head of Development and an experienced, supportive leadership team
  • Be part of a close‑knit development team with a genuinely positive culture, where people enjoy what they do
  • Enjoy a collaborative environment with experienced colleagues and strong internal support
  • Clear opportunity for career progression towards Project Director as the project progresses
  • Benefit from onsite parking and gym facilities
  • Join a growing business with long‑term project opportunities and career stability
About You
  • Proven experience as a Senior Development Manager, ideally within a private developer or established residential development business
  • Strong experience across large‑scale residential apartment or mixed‑use developments
  • Demonstrated capability across the front end of the development lifecycle, particularly feasibility, planning, approvals and design development
  • Strong commercial acumen, with the ability to interrogate development feasibilities, manage budgets and identify opportunities to maximise project value
  • Sound understanding of NSW planning processes and experience managing complex approval pathways
  • Confident coordinating multidisciplinary consultant teams and engaging with senior stakeholders
  • Proactive, commercially minded and comfortable taking ownership of complex development workstreams
  • Strong communication and relationship management skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within an established team
