Job summary

Carnac is seeking an experienced designer/drafter to contribute to projects across alumina, lithium and nickel refinery operations in Western Australia.

You will prepare, revise and maintain structural, mechanical, piping and process drawings, attend design meetings, and ensure QA through the approval process. Flexible start times and options to work from home or from our Perth or Bunbury offices.

Qualifications

• Diploma/Advanced Diploma in Mechanical/Structural Eng or Drafting or related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
• Minimum 8 years’ drafting/design experience in industrial sectors (mining, chemical, energy).
• Strong capability in AutoCAD and proficiency with 3D/2D design software.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, revise and maintain structural, mechanical, piping and process drawings and related documentation.
• Lead design/drafting meetings with suppliers, subcontractors and clients; produce meeting notes.
• Develop and deliver drafting outputs and monitor quality for all inputs.
• Identify deviations in scope and estimates and implement modifications through approvals.
• Perform site trips for on-site audits, field measurements and client meetings.

Job description

Carnac is offering an excellent opportunity for designers with a strong background in minerals processing to contribute to the design and delivery of projects across multiple commodities such as alumina, lithium and nickel refinery operations. The successful applicant will be responsible for preparing, revising and maintaining structural, mechanical, piping and process drawings and associated documentation.

A typical day will see you actively involved in design/drafting meetings with suppliers, subcontractors, and clients, and producing meeting notes to ensure good communication flow. Other responsibilities will include:

• Development of drafting deliverables.
• Identify deviations in job scope and estimates.
• Action modifications to models/drawings through the review and approval process.
• Monitor quality control for all design drafting inputs.
• Site trips for on-site audits, field measurements and client meetings.

This role has flexible options for Monday to Friday start and finish times, work from home and the option of working from our Perth head office in Myaree, 20 minutes from the Perth CBD, or our south-west office in Bunbury.

Qualifications, skills and experience

• Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Engineering Drafting or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant industry experience.
• Minimum 8 years’ relevant structural, mechanical and/or piping drafting or design experience within an industrial, processing, mining, chemical, energy or heavy industry environment.
• Strong capability in AutoCAD.
• Proficient in the use of 3D and 2D design software to produce models, drawings and sketches.
• Sound understanding of Australian design standards.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deliverables to deadlines.
