Job summary

Leidos Australia is seeking an experienced Oracle Senior Database Administrator to shape and maintain the enterprise Oracle database landscape underpinning critical government and defence services.

You will work across architecture, engineering, operations and security to ensure secure, resilient, scalable databases across on-premises, cloud and hybrid environments. This role requires strong leadership and collaboration with stakeholders to deliver reliable database solutions.

Qualifications

  • Extensive Oracle DB administration experience in enterprise environments.
  • Experience with Oracle RAC, Data Guard, RMAN for high availability.
  • Strong SQL/PLSQL development and performance tuning.
  • Knowledge of Oracle database security, including encryption and access controls.
  • Experience with upgrades, migrations, patching, and lifecycle management.
  • Proficiency in Linux/Unix environments and scripting (Shell, Python, SQL).
  • Ability to translate business requirements into secure, scalable database solutions.
  • Experience mentoring DBAs and engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design, administration and continuous improvement of enterprise Oracle DB environments with HA, DR, and capacity planning.
  • Collaborate with enterprise architects, infrastructure engineers, application teams and cybersecurity to deliver secure DB solutions across on-prem, cloud and hybrid platforms.
  • Drive database transformation initiatives including migrations, upgrades, platform modernization, cloud adoption and automation.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring, establish engineering standards and guide architectural decisions.

The Opportunity

As an Oracle Senior Database Administrator, you will play a key role in shaping and maintaining the enterprise Oracle database landscape that underpins critical business services and applications. Working across architecture, engineering, operations, and security teams, you will provide technical leadership to ensure database platforms remain secure, resilient, scalable, and ready to support future growth and modernisation initiatives.

  • Lead the design, administration, and continuous improvement of enterprise Oracle database environments, including high availability, disaster recovery, performance optimisation, and capacity planning.

  • Partner with enterprise architects, infrastructure engineers, application teams, and cybersecurity stakeholders to deliver secure, reliable, and high-performing database solutions across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid platforms.

  • Drive database transformation initiatives including migrations, upgrades, platform modernisation, cloud adoption, automation, and operational optimisation programs.

  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring across the database capability, establishing engineering standards, guiding architectural decisions, and identifying opportunities to improve resilience, security, efficiency, and platform performance.

About You

We are seeking a collaborative database professional who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, influencing technology direction, and delivering reliable database services that support critical business operations.

Essential
  • Extensive experience in Oracle Database administration, architecture, and engineering within enterprise environments.

  • Experience with Oracle RAC, Oracle Data Guard, RMAN backup and recovery, and the design of highly available and resilient database platforms.

  • Advanced capability in SQL and PL/SQL development, database performance tuning, workload optimisation, indexing, partitioning, and capacity management.

  • Knowledge of Oracle database security, including authentication, authorisation, encryption, auditing, privileged-access controls, and data protection practices.

  • Experience supporting database upgrades, migrations, patching, lifecycle management, and modernisation initiatives.

  • Capability in Linux/Unix environments and database automation using scripting technologies such as Shell, SQL, PL/SQL, Python, or similar tools.

  • Ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders and translate business requirements into secure, scalable database solutions.

  • Experience providing technical guidance, mentoring, and leadership to database administrators, engineers, or technical teams.

Advantageous
  • Experience designing and supporting Oracle database platforms within Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and other cloud or hybrid environments.

  • Exposure to Oracle Autonomous Database, Exadata, or other Oracle engineered systems.

  • Knowledge of cloud-native database services, identity and access management, cloud networking, encryption, and security controls.

  • Experience with database consolidation, platform optimisation, virtualisation, and large-scale migration programs.

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Oracle certifications, including Oracle Database Administration, Oracle Database Professional, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, or related certifications.

This role requires the successful applicant to hold a NV-1 Security Clearance.
