Job summary

HealthShare NSW is seeking a hands-on Data Engineering Lead to embed Snowflake/dbt on NSW Health data platforms. You will scale data engineering practices, govern code, and mentor a growing team in a hybrid work environment.

You will oversee onboarding, architecture, and security for sensitive health data while partnering with providers to continuously improve the platform. Your leadership will shape data strategy across HealthShare NSW.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading data engineering in a large/complex organisation.
• Hands-on production experience with Snowflake, dbt Core, and Git.
• Experience setting engineering standards and code reviews.
• Experience coaching developers new to technologies.
• Strong understanding of role-based access, privacy and regulated data.
• Experience collaborating with platform providers or shared-service teams.
• Ability to explain technical decisions to non-technical audiences.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience.
• Experience embedding a modern cloud data stack and maturing engineering practices.
• Experience building communities of practice and scaling standards.
• Experience in health or handling sensitive personal information.
• Industry certifications such as Snowflake, dbt, or cloud certifications.

Responsibilities

• Lead data onboarding across ingestion methods and deliver clean raw data.
• Own code governance for Snowflake, dbt, and Git: CI/CD.
• Approve pull requests to raise quality and capability.
• Guide model and solution design with data engineers and BI developers.
• Improve pipeline reliability with monitoring and quality checks.
• Manage secure access to sensitive data in line with privacy requirements.
• Optimize workload performance and cost.
• Partner with eHealth NSW and data providers on onboarding and platform improvements.
• Lead and grow a data engineering team and community of practice.
• Represent HealthShare NSW in NSW Health data strategy forums.
