Job summary

NEXTDC is seeking a Senior Data Centre Technician to join the Sunshine Coast facilities team, based in Maroochydore. You will support day-to-day operations of the data centre, ensuring safe, reliable service for customers and acting as SME for communications infrastructure.

You will lead a small team, coordinate provisioning, manage contractors, and contribute to improvements in processes, monitoring systems, and on-call duties as required.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years' experience in a similar role within a data centre or critical facility.
• Electrical or telecommunications qualifications are required.
• Experience leading a team or in a team-lead capacity.
• Certificate III in Telecommunications (preferred).
• HV switching certification (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Ensure safe, secure, and reliable operation of the data centre, including WHS and critical facility systems.
• Perform HV switching as directed.
• Coordinate provisioning requests, ensuring timely, high-quality work.
• Manage contractors, workloads, and staffing to meet SLAs.
• Plan and maintain cabling infrastructure capacity to support growth.
• Act as facility SME for communications infrastructure and monitoring.
• Assist with customer equipment installation and day-to-day operations.
• Escalate incidents and support timely resolution.
• Drive continuous improvement of processes and workflows.
• Lead facility training and provide technical guidance to the team.

We are currently looking for a passionate Senior Data Centre Technician to joinourSunshine Coastfacilities team.

This role will be based in Maroochydore,Sunshine Coast

The purpose of this role is to supporttheFacilityManagerwith the day-to-day operations of the data centre by providing high quality & efficient technical maintenance and customer service. This role will also bethe lead in SME for the team of Data Centre Technicians andbe requiredtoparticipatein an on-call roster.Whatyou'lldo:

• Ensure the safe, secure, and reliable operation of the data centre by managing WHS, security, and critical facility systems.
• Perform HV switchingasdirected
• Coordinate customer provisioning requests, ensuring work is completed accurately, on time, and to a high standard.
• Manage contractors, workloads, and staffing resources to meet operational demands and SLAs.
• Plan andmaintaincabling infrastructure capacity to support customer growth and ensure service availability.
• Act as the facility Subject Matter Expert (SME) for communications infrastructure, including cabling, power monitoring, rack locking, and environmental monitoring.
• Assist with customer equipment installation, facility maintenance, and day-to-day operational activities.
• Maintain high standards of facility cleanliness, presentation, and operational readiness.
• Escalate incidents in line with established procedures and supporttimelyresolution.
• Drive continuous improvement by developing and enhancing operational processes, policies, and workflows.
• Lead facility training initiatives andprovidetechnical guidance to the wider team.
• Prepare operational reports and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and performance.
• Collaborate across teams to deliver excellent customer service and support businessobjectives.
• Participate in ongoing learning and professional development to build technical and operationalexpertise.
• Completeadditionalduties as required by the Facilities Manager.

What you need:

• Strong customer service skills, with experience managing customer queries and escalations.
• Excellent planning, organisation, and problem-solving abilities.
• Knowledge of data centre operations, including rack management, IT equipment installation, power, and cooling systems.
• Experience with structured cabling, cable management, and quality assurance.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Eagerness to learn about high-density power systems and advanced cooling technologies.
• Familiarity with building management and monitoring systems (desirable).
• Relevant electrical or telecommunications installation/testing qualifications (desirable).
• Basic understanding of the ITIL framework (desirable).

Qualifications

• 3-5 years' experience in a similar role within a critical facility or data centre.
• Electrical or telecommunications qualifications and hands-on experience.
• Experience leading a team or working in a team lead capacity.
• Certificate III in Telecommunications (preferred)systems
• HV switching certification(preferred)
