Job summary

Qualifications

• Experience as a Business Analyst, Technical Business Analyst, Data Analyst or similar role in a data, analytics or technology environment.
• Experience supporting data governance activities, including data classification, access management, metadata, data quality or data catalogue processes.
• Strong understanding of data platforms, data pipelines, data transformation and reporting concepts.
• Practical experience using SQL, and working knowledge of Python, Azure Data Factory, Databricks or similar cloud data platform tools.
• Ability to gather, clarify and document business requirements, functional requirements, acceptance criteria and process flows.
• Ability to support source data ingestion, data mapping, data profiling, reconciliation and troubleshooting activities.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, including the ability to work with technical teams, business users, data owners and data stewards.
• Experience working with Databricks, Azure data services or similar modern cloud data platforms.
• Experience in local government, public sector or complex enterprise environments.
• Experience supporting Power BI, enterprise reporting, data platform uplift, analytics or AI enablement initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Work with business stakeholders, data stewards and data owners to clarify requirements for data ingestion, access, reporting and analytics use cases.

• Work with Data Governance stakeholders to support data classification, metadata collection, data catalogue inputs, data quality reporting and access control processes.
• Assist with user onboarding, training and enablement for CoM Data Central and related data services.
• Maintain clear documentation to support operational handover, repeatable delivery and ongoing BAU support.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of business analysis, governance and delivery practices across the Data Platforms and Governance team.
• Provide ad hoc technical support to business users and internal stakeholders using CoM Data Central.
• Support source system ingestion activities using SQL, Python, Azure Data Factory and Databricks where required.
• Assist with data profiling, mapping, transformation and validation activities.
• Support troubleshooting of data issues, pipeline failures, reconciliation differences and ad hoc business questions

Job description

As a Technical Business Analyst, you will play a key role in supporting the successful delivery of technology projects and initiatives across a complex public sector environment. You will work closely with project managers, technology teams, architects, developers, vendors and business stakeholders to understand business needs, analyse existing systems and processes, define requirements and support the development and implementation of effective technology solutions. This is a role that will suit someone who is comfortable getting into the detail while also understanding the broader business and project objectives.

Key responsibilities

Business Analysis and Data Governance (60%)

Work with business stakeholders, data stewards and data owners to clarify requirements for data ingestion, access, reporting and analytics use cases.

Document business requirements, functional requirements, acceptance criteria, process flows and data-related decisions.

Work with Data Governance stakeholders to support data classification, metadata collection, data catalogue inputs, data quality reporting and access control processes.

Assist with user onboarding, training and enablement for CoM Data Central and related data services.

Maintain clear documentation to support operational handover, repeatable delivery and ongoing BAU support.

Contribute to continuous improvement of business analysis, governance and delivery practices across the Data Platforms and Governance team.

Provide ad hoc technical support to business users and internal stakeholders using CoM Data Central.

Technical Data Engineering Support (40%)

Support source system ingestion activities using SQL, Python, Azure Data Factory and Databricks where required.

Assist with data profiling, mapping, transformation and validation activities.

Support troubleshooting of data issues, pipeline failures, reconciliation differences and ad hoc business questions

Work with data engineers to document technical requirements, pipeline logic, source-to-target mappings and data quality checks.

Support development and maintenance of curated datasets and reusable data assets for reporting, analytics and AI use cases.

Project Management and Delivery Coordination (Approximately 1- 3 days per month)

Prepare monthly status reports, project updates and delivery summaries.

Support forecast updates, budget tracking inputs and project governance reporting.

Prepare PCB packs, change requests and presentation materials as required.

Coordinate sprint planning activities to align team delivery with the overall project plan.

Work with delivery leads, project sponsors, business stakeholders and technical teams to support timely delivery of agreed outcomes.

About you

Experience as a Business Analyst, Technical Business Analyst, Data Analyst or similar role in a data, analytics or technology environment.
