The NSW Police Force in Australia is seeking a Senior Cyber Security Engineer to join the Cyber Security Engineering, Cyber Security, Technology & Communication Services Command. You will lead the development and implementation of secure technology solutions protecting critical systems and data.

This role blends strategic leadership with hands-on security work, including cloud-native environments, Zero Trust architectures, DevSecOps pipelines, and threat detection.

Job description

• $182,217 pa. Package includes salary from $154,231 to $160,771, plus employer's contribution to superannuation of 12% and annual leave loading.

About the role

We have an opportunity for a Senior Cyber Security Engineer to be part of our Cyber Security Engineering, Cyber Security, Technology & Communication Services Command. The Senior Cyber Security Engineer is responsible for leading the development and implementation of secure technology solutions that protect critical law enforcement systems, sensitive data, and operational integrity. This role embeds security into digital infrastructure and aligns cyber capabilities with policing priorities, which enables NSWPF to confidently adopt new technologies, maintain public trust, and ensure the secure and effective delivery of policing services to the community.

Strategic & Hands-On Balance – This position will involve technical and strategic—not just operational, and involvement in architectural decisions, influencing secure design across platforms.

Exposure to Advanced Technologies - opportunities to work with cloud-native environments, Zero Trust architectures, DevSecOps pipelines, and AI-driven threat detection.

End-to-End Security Ownership - Full life cycle security—from secure onboarding of devices to decommissioning.

Organisational Impact – Opportunity to shape security practices across the enterprise, reducing attack surface organisation-wide. Collaboration with architects and leadership to embed security into core business processes.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement - Attending cyber security conferences and experimenting with emerging technologies. Opportunities to develop automation for security posture management.
