Job summary

Talent is seeking a Senior Cyber Operations & Engineering Specialist to strengthen security across a complex enterprise. The role focuses on Tenable vulnerability management and Illumio micro-segmentation, with additional emphasis on reporting and automation.

You will design, implement, and tune security controls, develop detections with Microsoft Sentinel using KQL, and collaborate with SOC/MDR providers to improve security operations. NSW location in Parramatta or Richmond.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years in enterprise cyber security engineering or related roles.
• Hands-on experience with Tenable/WAS vulnerability management and Illumio segmentation.
• Experience in analyzing scan results and reporting metrics via Power BI.
• Knowledge of hybrid infrastructure, network security, and firewalls.
• Strong communication with technical and business stakeholders.

Senior Cyber Operations & Engineering Specialist

Initial 12-month contract | Richmond or Parramatta, NSW

We are seeking an experienced, hands‑on Cyber Security Specialist to join a major Cyber Resilience & Recovery Program. You will strengthen security across a complex enterprise environment, with a particular focus on Tenable vulnerability management and Illumio micro‑segmentation.

Key priorities

The hiring manager has identified two critical areas:

• Tenable/WAS scanning and Power BI reporting: Plan and execute vulnerability and web application scans, validate findings, prioritise risks, verify remediation and publish vulnerability reporting through Power BI.
• Illumio micro‑segmentation: Design, implement and tune segmentation policies, validate application traffic flows and enforce security boundaries to protect critical systems and restrict lateral movement.

Candidates who meet approximately 70% or more of the requirements across these two priority areas are strongly encouraged to apply, even if their experience across the other technologies is less extensive.

What you’ll do

• Manage Tenable Nessus/Tenable Vulnerability Management and Web Application Scanning (WAS), translating findings into actionable remediation and reporting.
• Implement and maintain Illumio micro‑segmentation, including policy development, traffic validation and enforcement.
• Develop and tune Microsoft Sentinel detections using advanced KQL, and optimise Data Collection Rules (DCR) and log ingestion.
• Tune Akamai Layer 7 WAF inspection rules and application exceptions to protect services while supporting legitimate business activity.
• Build Azure Logic Apps SOAR playbooks to automate security investigation, response and containment.
• Work closely with internal technical teams and managed SOC/MDR providers to improve detection quality and operational security.

What you’ll bring

• At least five year’s hands‑on experience in enterprise cyber security engineering, security operations or technical security architecture.
• Strong practical capability in Tenable/WAS vulnerability management and Illumio micro‑segmentation, or comparable enterprise segmentation platforms.
• Experience analysing scan results, reducing false positives and reporting vulnerability metrics through Power BI.
• Sound knowledge of hybrid infrastructure, network security, firewalls, application dependencies and security controls.
• Clear communication skills and the ability to work with technical teams, business stakeholders and external security providers.

Experience with Microsoft Sentinel, advanced KQL, DCR ingestion tuning, Akamai WAF and Azure Logic Apps will be highly regarded. Relevant Microsoft, Tenable, Illumio or industry security certifications are desirable.
