Job summary

Senior Control Systems Engineer

The Opportunity

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Control Systems Engineer to take ownership of industrial automation projects from initial requirements and control-system design through to commissioning and handover.

You will work closely with clients and internal project teams to define technical requirements, develop reliable PLC and SCADA solutions, and resolve complex engineering challenges.

This permanent position offers exposure to projects across water, manufacturing, resources, transport, utilities, renewables and heavy industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Work with clients and internal stakeholders to define project scope and technical requirements.
• Lead the design, development and implementation of industrial control systems.
• Develop and modify PLC, RTU, SCADA and HMI applications.
• Prepare control philosophies, functional descriptions, I/O schedules and system architecture documentation.
• Integrate instrumentation, VSDs, PID loops, safety interfaces and OT networking equipment.
• Produce high-quality engineering documentation and client-ready deliverables.
• Review specifications, drawings, technical submissions and supplier quotations.
• Plan and undertake FAT, SAT, commissioning and site-based testing activities.
• Troubleshoot complex control-system, communication and integration issues.
• Coordinate with clients, suppliers, contractors and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical standards and continuous improvement.
• Ensure designs and project activities meet safety, quality and performance requirements.

About You

You will ideally possess:

• A degree or trade qualification in Electrical, Mechatronics, Control Systems or a related discipline.
• At least five years of industrial automation or control-systems experience.
• Practical PLC or RTU programming experience using platforms such as Rockwell, Siemens or Schneider.
• End-to-end SCADA and HMI experience with platforms such as Ignition, AVEVA, FactoryTalk or WinCC.
• Experience integrating industrial instrumentation, drives, control panels and communications networks.
• Exposure to system integration, FAT, SAT, commissioning and site-based fault-finding.
• Strong analytical skills and sound technical judgement.
• Clear client-facing communication and stakeholder-management abilities.
• The ability to explain complex technical matters to non-technical stakeholders.
• A collaborative approach and willingness to mentor developing engineers.
• Full Australian working rights and a current driver’s licence.
