Job summary

Western Power is hiring a Senior Compliance Specialist to lead regulatory compliance and assurance across the organisation in a permanent Perth role.

You will oversee licence obligations, drive robust compliance frameworks, and partner with leaders to embed controls and manage regulatory risk. The role emphasizes training, stakeholder engagement, and proactive remediation in a dynamic energy environment.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Lead regulatory compliance assurance activities ensuring licence obligations and regulatory requirements are met.
• Manage statutory audit programs and regulatory reviews with external auditors and regulators.
• Develop, maintain and improve the compliance framework, obligations register, and tools.
• Partner with leaders to establish accountabilities, develop compliance plans and robust controls.
• Drive assurance activities, oversee audits and monitor compliance performance.
• Analyze incidents, findings and regulatory risks; implement remediation actions.
• Prepare regulatory, assurance and Board reporting with meaningful insights.
• Provide trusted advice on legislative obligations to staff and contractors.
• Champion compliance culture through training and collaborative stakeholder relationships.
• Monitor legislative changes and identify risk improvements for governance confidence.

Senior Compliance Specialist - Permanent - Perth

Join Western Power as a Senior Compliance Specialist in a permanent opportunity and help drive a strong culture of regulatory compliance and accountability across the organisation. Working closely with stakeholders at all levels, you will lead the implementation of our regulatory frameworks and provide expert guidance to ensure our licence obligations are met, risks are proactively managed, and regulatory requirements are embedded into business operations.

Your Role in Action

• Lead and coordinate Western Power's regulatory compliance assurance activities, ensuring ongoing adherence to operating licence obligations and regulatory requirements.
• Manage statutory audit programs and regulatory reviews, working closely with external auditors and regulators to ensure timely delivery, effective stakeholder engagement and successful outcomes.
• Lead the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of Western Power’s compliance framework, legislative obligations register, and associated compliance tools and processes.
• Partner with leaders and obligation owners across the business to establish clear accountabilities, develop compliance plans, and embed robust controls that effectively manage compliance risk.
• Drive compliance assurance activities, including the development of assurance programs, oversight of audits, and monitoring of compliance performance to strengthen governance and accountability.
• Analyse compliance incidents, assurance findings, customer complaints, and regulatory risks, ensuring remediation actions are implemented and opportunities for improvement are realised.
• Prepare high-quality regulatory compliance, assurance, and Board reporting that provides meaningful insights and supports informed decision-making at all levels of the organisation.
• Provide trusted expert advice on legislative and regulatory obligations, helping employees, leaders, and contractors navigate compliance requirements with confidence.
• Champion a strong compliance culture by delivering training, building organisational capability, and fostering collaborative relationships that drive awareness, engagement, and continuous improvement.
• Monitor emerging legislative and regulatory changes identify compliance risks and improvement opportunities, and provide trusted advice that supports strong governance, accountability and regulatory confidence across the organisation.

What Makes You a Great Fit

• Demonstrated experience in regulatory compliance, assurance, auditing or investigations within a highly regulated environment, with a strong understanding of governance and risk management principles.
• Proven ability to interpret complex regulatory obligations and provide practical, risk-based advice that supports business compliance and informed decision-making.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to identify trends, risks and opportunities for improvement.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and build credibility across all levels of an organisation.
• A proactive, outcomes-focused approach, with the adaptability to manage competing priorities while delivering high-quality work within required timeframes.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Business, Commerce, Law, Governance, Risk, Compliance or a related discipline.

Highly desirable but not mandatory

• Experience working within utilities, infrastructure, government or other highly regulated sectors.
• Professional certifications in compliance, risk, audit or governance disciplines.
