Job description

All Manufacturing Personnel – Sydney North Shore NSW
Advanced Multi-Axis & Multitasking Manufacturing | Northern Beaches
Are you an accomplished CNC programmer and machinist who thinks beyond simply making the part?

We are conducting a specialist search on behalf of an established Australian precision engineering company operating an exceptionally well-equipped, technology-driven manufacturing facility on Sydney's Northern Beaches.

This is not simply another CNC machining position.

The immediate requirement is for a highly capable, hands-on CNC Programmer / Setter who can confidently take a component from drawing or model through machining strategy, programming, tooling, workholding, prove-out and production.

Beyond that, the opportunity is for someone who wants to use that technical foundation to progressively contribute to estimating, manufacturing planning and broader process improvement alongside the existing team

The Manufacturing Environment

You will be working within a sophisticated precision manufacturing operation incorporating:

  • advanced multi-axis CNC machining and turning
  • 5-axis vertical and horizontal machining
  • modern CAD/CAM programming
  • palletised and lights-out manufacturing
  • robotics and automated material handling
  • sophisticated tooling, workholding and offline presetting
  • in-machine probing and advanced metrology
  • prototyping, product development and new-job introduction
  • one-off, small-to-medium batch and production manufacturing

The facility is modern, clean and exceptionally well equipped, with an ongoing commitment to investment in manufacturing technology, automation and process improvement.

About You

First and foremost, you need to be a machinist.

Not simply someone who can operate a machine or modify an existing program, but someone who understands the complete manufacturing process.

You may currently be a Senior CNC Programmer, Toolmaker, CNC Machinist, Leading Hand or occupy another title entirely.

We are more interested in what you can do than what your title says.

Ideally, you will bring:
  • strong CNC programming, setting and machining capability
  • experience with machining centres, turning centres and/or multifunction mill-turn equipment
  • sound understanding of tooling, workholding, feeds and speeds and machining strategy
  • CAD/CAM programming experience
  • the ability to interpret engineering drawings and 3D models and develop an effective manufacturing process
  • experience with close-tolerance precision components
  • an interest in process optimisation, setup reduction, cycle time, quality and repeatability
  • the confidence to tackle new or difficult components without needing an established process to follow
  • Experience with Okuma / OSP, Mastercam, Fusion, 5-axis machining, automation, robotics or palletised production would certainly be useful, but we are not looking for somebody who simply ticks every equipment box.
  • High-level experience on other CNC controls and CAM platforms is absolutely transferable.
Where Can It Lead?

This is where the opportunity becomes particularly interesting.

The company is looking beyond its immediate machining requirement and wants someone capable of becoming a more significant part of the manufacturing operation over time.

For the right person, there is genuine scope to become increasingly involved in:
  • job estimating and manufacturing costing
  • process planning and job sequencing
  • contributing to production planning and workflow alongside the existing team
  • new-job introduction
  • mentoring and sharing technical knowledge
  • broader manufacturing problem-solving and process improvement

You do not necessarily need to have done all of this already.

You do need the technical credibility, curiosity and appetite to grow in that direction.

Equally, this is not a desk job disguised as a machining role. Your credibility will come from understanding manufacturing at the machine and being capable of solving the difficult problems yourself.

The Opportunity

This is a permanent, senior appointment with an established Australian manufacturer that has been engineering and manufacturing for more than 50 years while continuing to invest heavily in its future.

You will join a friendly, collaborative and culturally diverse workplace with flexible start and finish times, excellent manufacturing resources and management that genuinely values capability, initiative and contribution.

An attractive salary package will be negotiated to secure the right person.

If machining is your craft, but you also find yourself thinking about how the whole job could be planned, costed, organised and produced better, we'd particularly like to hear from you.

All enquiries and applications will be treated in strict confidence.
