Job summary

Forensicare in Melbourne is seeking a Senior Clinician for the Victorian Fixated Threat Assessment Centre (VFTAC). Based at the Victoria Police Command Complex, you will work with police to assess individuals of concern and develop management plans.

You will collect information, perform risk assessments, conduct mental health evaluations, and input data into the required systems. The role is a full-time fixed-term secondment to Oct 2027.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated commitment to mental health consumer recovery.
• Australian Citizen.
• At least five years of experience in providing clinical services in forensic mental health.
• Experience in and understanding of best practice methods in threat assessment with ability to independently deliver clinical and risk oriented services.
• Extensive knowledge of relevant legislation, the mental health system, and the criminal justice system.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to liaise with a range of external bodies and authorities.
• Ability to deliver training and education with awareness of service and organisational needs.

Responsibilities

• Collect mental health information on cases referred from established databases and exchange relevant information with VFTAC police according to information management procedures.
• Undertake structured risk assessments using standardised tools, and collaboratively develop with police further assessment and intervention plans.
• Undertake telephone and direct mental health assessments to determine risk issues and interventions.
• Formulate with police intervention and mental health linkage strategies as indicated.
• Enter initial and updated case information into the Victorian public mental health database and other data systems as required; assist in managing case and service activity data.
• In conjunction with VFTAC staff, ensure all open cases are followed up and data fed back to team members to refine risk and intervention decisions.
