Job summary

SMEC is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to join our IV & Construction Services team in Adelaide, with regular travel to site offices.

You will deliver construction-phase services on major infrastructure projects, working with contractors and clients to ensure work is safe, on schedule, and to the highest technical standards. This hands-on role combines design interface with construction oversight and stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications

• 6+ years’ experience in civil engineering within infrastructure projects.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or equivalent).
• Strong technical capability across civil projects.
• Experience managing project risk and delivering strong client outcomes.
• Ability to lead or support small teams and mentor others.
• Proven client relationship and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience working independently across multiple projects.
• Strong report writing and proposal preparation skills.
• Effective time management and ability to meet deadlines.
• Proactive mindset, with adaptability across varied project environments.

Responsibilities

• Ensure technical outputs meet client and SMEC standards.
• Collaborate with project teams and contractors to deliver coordinated outcomes.
• Contribute to project performance and overall commercial success.
• Apply project management principles to deliver work on time and to standard.
• Issue directions to contractors and support contract administration.
• Monitor compliance with contractual and technical requirements.
• Assess and review variation claims.
• Track and report on progress, quality, safety, time, and cost.
• Build and maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships.
