Job summary

SMEC, a global engineering consultancy, is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer for Adelaide with regular travel to site offices. The role focuses on construction phase delivery, working closely with contractors, clients and project teams to ensure safe, timely and high‑quality outcomes.

You will deliver hands‑on technical execution, contract administration and stakeholder engagement, while leading or mentoring junior staff and maintaining strong client relationships.

Qualifications

• 6+ years’ experience in civil engineering within infrastructure projects.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or equivalent).
• Strong technical capability across civil projects.
• Experience managing project risk and delivering strong client outcomes.
• Ability to lead or support small teams and mentor others.
• Proven client relationship and stakeholder management skills.

• Ensure technical outputs meet client and SMEC standards.
• Collaborate with project teams and contractors to deliver coordinated outcomes.
• Contribute to project performance and overall commercial success.
• Apply project management principles to deliver work on time and to standard.

We are seeking talented Senior Civil Engineers to join our IV & Construction Services team in Adelaide, with regular travel to site offices required.

In this role, you’ll play a key part in delivering construction phase services across major infrastructure projects. Working closely with contractors, clients, and project teams, you’ll ensure works are delivered safely, on time, and to the highest technical standards.

This is a hands‑on role combining technical delivery, contract administration, and stakeholder engagement—ideal for someone who enjoys working at the interface of design and construction while building strong client relationships.

You’re an experienced Civil Engineer with a background in consultancy and a strong focus on construction phase delivery.

You will bring:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or equivalent)
• Strong technical capability across civil projects
• Experience managing project risk and delivering strong client outcomes
• Ability to lead or support small teams and mentor others

• Experience working independently across multiple projects
• Strong report writing and proposal preparation skills
• Effective time management and ability to meet deadlines
• A proactive mindset, with the ability to adapt across varied project environments
