Job summary

Aurecon is expanding its national Sustainability and Building Performance team with a Senior CFD Engineer to deliver complex CFD studies and advise clients across Australia and New Zealand. The role blends technical modelling with consulting judgment and strong communication.

You will lead CFD scopes, mentor junior engineers and contribute to growing CFD capability, applying ANSYS software to drive practical design decisions in building performance and data centre projects.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related discipline.
• Strong CFD experience and ability to work independently on complex modelling tasks.
• Hands-on experience using ANSYS CFD software (CFX/Fluent).
• Experience applying CFD within building services or building performance contexts.
• Track record of delivering projects using CFD as a problem-solving tool rather than only model production.
• Strong consulting, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
• Ability to interpret modelling results, identify limitations and communicate actionable recommendations.
• Experience coordinating with multidisciplinary teams and balancing quality, programme and commercial requirements.
• Collaborative approach with mentoring capability.

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver CFD studies from problem definition to reporting and client advice.
• Use ANSYS CFX and/or ANSYS Fluent to study airflow and thermal performance.
• Contribute to data centre, buildings, Defence and related projects across Australia.
• Define the CFD approach with clients and translate analysis into actionable recommendations.
• Prepare clear technical reports and presentations communicating methodology and findings.
• Manage CFD scopes, priorities and deliverables while maintaining quality.
• Lead technical discussions with clients and stakeholders and support projects through delivery.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a growing CFD community.
• Strengthen CFD methods and quality processes across the business.
