Job summary

City of Melbourne is seeking a Senior Building Surveyor to lead building compliance, enforcement, audits and inspections, ensuring actions align with the Building Act 1993 and council procedures. The role provides technical leadership to Building Control Officers and drives continuous improvement across processes and systems.

Qualifications

• Qualifications in Building Surveying and registration as a Building Practitioner in the category of Building Surveyor Unlimited.
• Experience in the appraisal of a variety of different buildings and structures.
• Ability to manage and provide directions in emergency situations.
• Proven ability to lead, develop and motivate a team.
• Highly developed interpersonal skills and proven written and oral communication skills, experience in drafting correspondence, analysing reports and making recommendations.
• Excellent networking skills and ability to foster collaborative working relationships.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate the delivery of building compliance, enforcement, audit, report and consent, permit and inspection functions.
• Provide technical leadership and day-to-day support to Building Control Officers, overseeing work quality and investigations.
• Manage and deliver key regulatory activities, including building investigations, enforcement actions, reports and permits.
• Drive continuous improvement through audit programs, performance reporting and record management.
• Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, customers and external authorities.
