Job summary

Kingston City Council in Melbourne is seeking a Senior Building Surveyor to provide senior technical and statutory expertise in delivering building surveying services in line with the Building Act and related regulations. This role supports the Deputy Municipal Building Surveyor, guiding staff to ensure compliant, timely decisions and efficient service delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Building Surveying (or equivalent)
• Registration as a Building Surveyor with the Victorian Building Authority
• Knowledge of the Building Act, Building Regulations, Australian Standards and related legislation
• Experience providing technical oversight, mentoring or supervision
• Clear written and verbal communication for statutory docs, technical advice and public inquiries

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and deliver statutory building surveying services per legislation and Council requirements
• Assess and issue building permits, conduct inspections, issue occupancy permits and final certificates
• Investigate non‑compliant works and support notices and orders under the Building Act
• Provide specialist statutory and technical advice to staff, practitioners, applicants and the public
• Provide day‑to‑day guidance, mentoring and oversight to team members
• Contribute to service planning, process improvement and operational practices
• Participate in after‑hours on‑call roster
• Represent Council in statutory, regulatory and professional settings
