Job summary

Megaport is seeking a senior engineer to lead product development and own core features, balancing technical debt with user-focused improvements. You will design and maintain RESTful APIs, and guide a small team while working in a remote-first, globally distributed environment.

The role emphasizes ownership, collaboration across time zones, and a strong focus on scalable architecture and high-quality code.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software development experience in Java and/or Kotlin (OO design).
• Proven experience building backend services in web apps.
• Ability to lead small projects (4 developers) with architectural guidance.
• Strong data modelling with relational DBs, SQL (Hibernate preferred).
• Excellent collaboration and communication across technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Product Development & Ownership – evolve core product, modernise legacy components, add features, shape architecture.
• System Maintenance & Technical Improvements – reduce technical debt, improve performance, scale platform.
• API Design & Delivery – build secure, scalable RESTful APIs, follow versioning & monitoring.
• Quality & Release Engineering – contribute to tests, code reviews, CI/CD improvements.
• Mentorship & Technical Leadership – coach juniors, promote good design, foster learning.
