Job summary

FutureYou is seeking a Senior Projects Lawyer to join the in-house legal team in Sydney, supporting the commercial team across large transport, civil and energy infrastructure projects.

The role focuses on contractual risk management, high-value subcontracts, variation claims and SOPA compliance, with opportunities to influence senior stakeholders and shape project risk controls.

Qualifications

• Ideally 6+ years' experience from private practice or in-house.
• Experience in construction litigation on large projects (road, rail, tunnels preferred).
• Knowledge of Australian construction law, standard form contracts and SOPA.
• Excellent problem-solving and deadline management.
• Strong influencing and stakeholder engagement skills.

Responsibilities

• Deliver real-time counsel on contract interpretation, risk allocation, and statutory compliance under the head contract.
• Draft, review and negotiate subcontracts, consultancy agreements, and major supply contracts.
• Advise on variation claims, EOTs, head contract notices, and SOPA payment claims.
• Proactively managing operational risks early to avoid formal disputes.
• Advising the business on compliance and risk management.

A new opportunity has arisen for a senior projects lawyer to join the legal team of a global organisation in Sydney. The role will be a key part of the legal team, supporting the commercialteam across large transport, civil and energy infrastructureprojects. A key focus will be on contractual risk management, high-value subcontracts, variation claims and SOPA compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver real-time counsel on contract interpretation, risk allocation, and statutory compliance under the head contract
• Providing contract interpretation, risk allocation, and statutory compliance under the head contract
• Drafting, reviewing and negotiating subcontracts, consultancy agreements, and major supply contracts
• Advising on variation claims, EOTs, head contract notices, and Security of Payment Act (SOPA) payment claims
• Proactively managing operational risks early to avoid formal disputes
• Advising the business on compliance and risk management

Key Requirements:

• Ideally 6+ years gained from a leading private practice firm or in-house organisation
• Previous exposureto construction litigation ideally across large projects, with road, rail and tunnels experience being preferable
• Proven knowledge of Australian construction law, standard form contracts, and SOPA regimes
• Excellent problem solving skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines
• Strong influencing and stakeholder engagementskills,
