Job summary

Lead Group in Sydney is seeking an Associate or Senior Associate Construction Lawyer to join a specialist practice. You will handle major projects, front-end contracting and advisory work, with direct client exposure and clear progression.

The role offers autonomy and interaction with senior specialists. The role emphasizes drafting, negotiating contracts, and managing disputes across the construction lifecycle.

Qualifications

• 2+ years PQE in construction, projects or infrastructure.
• Front-end, back-end or mixed construction experience.
• Strong drafting and technical legal skills.
• Commercial and practical judgement with ability to work directly with clients.

Responsibilities

• Draft, negotiate construction and project contracts.
• Manage major construction and infrastructure projects.
• Provide procurement and project advisory services.
• Handle security of payment claims and adjudications.
• Address variations, delays, defects and extensions of time.
• Advise on complex construction and commercial disputes, including litigation or ADR.
• Interact with developers, contractors, subcontractors and other industry participants.

The Opportunity

An opportunity is available for an Associate or Senior Associate Construction Lawyer to join a highly regarded specialist construction practice in Sydney.

Rather than being limited to one narrow area, you will have the opportunity to develop a broad construction practice spanning major projects, front-end contracting, advisory work and complex disputes.

Depending on your experience, your matters may include:

• Drafting and negotiating construction and project contracts
• Major construction and infrastructure projects
• Procurement and project advisory
• Security of Payment claims and adjudications
• Variations, delay, defects and extension of time claims
• Complex construction and commercial disputes
• Litigation, mediation and alternative dispute resolution
• Advising developers, contractors, subcontractors and other industry participants

The role offers genuine scope to take carriage of matters, work directly with clients and develop your own profile, while having experienced construction specialists around you when needed.

What We're Looking For

We are interested in speaking with Associate to Senior Associate level lawyers, ideally with:

• 2+ years' PQE in construction, projects or infrastructure
• Front-end, back-end or mixed construction experience
• Strong drafting and technical legal skills
• Commercial and practical judgement
• Confidence working directly with clients and stakeholders
• A desire to broaden their construction experience and accelerate their career

Lawyers from top-tier, national, mid-tier and specialist construction practices are encouraged to apply.
