You will diagnose and repair a wide range of vehicles using modern diagnostic equipment, supervise workshop activities, and maintain accurate service records.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years’ experience as an automotive technician or mechanic in a professional workshop.
• Proven diagnostics and repair across a wide range of makes/models.
• AQF Level 3/4 in Automotive Service or equivalent trade qualification.
• Current valid driver’s licence (manual transmission experience required).
• Strong leadership and mentoring abilities with a customer‑focussed approach.

About the role

Midas Reynella Tyre & Auto is seeking an experienced Senior Automotive Technician/Mechanic to join our team in Reynella, SA. This is a full-time position that offers a fantastic opportunity for a skilled technician to take on a leadership role within our automotive service centre. As a Senior Automotive Technician/Mechanic, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality mechanical repairs and maintenance services whilst mentoring junior staff and contributing to the overall excellence of our workshop operations. This role is based on-site at our Reynella location, where you'll work with modern diagnostic equipment and a diverse range of vehicle types.

Key responsibilities

Perform comprehensive diagnostic assessments and repairs on vehicles, including engine work, transmission, suspension, braking systems and electrical components

Conduct routine maintenance services such as oil changes, filter replacements, fluid top-ups and general vehicle inspections

Utilise computerised diagnostic equipment and specialised tools to identify and resolve mechanical faults efficiently

Mentor, train and supervise junior technicians, providing guidance on best practices and technical procedures

Ensure all work is completed to the highest standards, maintaining detailed service records and documentation

Liaise with customers to explain repair requirements, timelines and associated costs in a clear and professional manner

Maintain a clean, safe and organised workshop environment in compliance with health and safety regulations

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and participate in ongoing professional development

Assist in stock management for parts and equipment as required

What we’re looking for

A minimum of 5+ years' experience as an automotive technician or mechanic in a professional workshop environment

Proven expertise in diagnosing and repairing a wide range of vehicle makes and models

Proficiency with modern diagnostic equipment and computer-based vehicle systems

Relevant qualifications such as an AQF Level 3 or 4 in Automotive Service or equivalent trade qualification

A current valid driver's licence (manual transmission experience is essential)

Strong leadership and mentoring abilities, with the capacity to motivate and develop team members

Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Outstanding communication abilities and a customer-focused mindset

Knowledge of automotive electrical systems, engine management and safety systems is highly valued
