Job summary

Hitachi Rail is seeking a Senior Automation Software Engineer to join our Perth team. This role focuses on designing and implementing robust software for safety-critical, real-time systems within the rail domain.

You will document designs, develop interfaces, and ensure compliance with EN 50128 and related standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in OO design, real-time software, and experience with C++/Java, XML, XSLT, MySQL, and unit testing frameworks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, computer science, information technology or equivalent.
• At least 5 years’ experience in software development with quality design documentation.
• Knowledge of enterprise integration patterns and object-oriented design.
• Experience in C++, Java or similar languages, XML/XSLT, MySQL, and unit testing frameworks.
• Experience in writing software requirements and adhering to safe, structured design.

Responsibilities

• Component requirements analysis from input subsystem requirements and design.
• Component design analysis and architecture/specification per EN 50128 SIL 0.
• Write interface specifications and document message formats.
• Develop component software per coding standards.
• Create component test scripts in Python using the in-house framework.
• Adhere to safety, cyber security, and safety standards in software processes.
