Job summary

WSP is seeking a Senior/Associate Electrical Engineer to lead HV design for substations and data centre projects across Australia. You will own complex designs, develop project specifications, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.

Join our Transmission & Distribution team to mentor engineers, drive technical excellence, and contribute to proposals, business development, and client advisory across Melbourne and other Australian locations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 7–15+ years post‑graduate HV/EHV electrical engineering experience.
• RPEQ/RPEV registration or eligibility.
• Chartered status at Associate level.
• Strong background in substation design, HV infrastructure, cable systems, transmission & distribution utilities, renewable energy projects, and/or data centres.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide clear, robust advice to clients.
• Skilled in proposal and report writing.

Responsibilities

• Lead HV design for transmission & distribution substations, HV infrastructure, and data centre projects—covering layouts, ratings, sizing, and technical oversight.
• Develop detailed specifications at project and equipment levels.
• Apply knowledge of power system protection, SCADA systems, transmission lines, underground cables, and earthing design.
• Support high‑voltage scope for Owner’s Engineer and Technical Due Diligence projects.
• Review and verify designs and reports prepared by peers.
• Mentor junior engineers and champion technical excellence.
• Drive Safety‑in‑Design (SID) and ensure compliance with legislative requirements.
• Collaborate across disciplines—civil, structural, geotechnical, secondary, drafting, and control systems.
• Undertake short‑term site visits as needed.
• Contribute to proposals and business development initiatives.

What You’ll Do
