Job summary

WSP is seeking a Senior or Associate Electrical Engineer in Melbourne to lead HV design for transmission and distribution projects, including substations, HV infrastructure, and data centres. You will develop specifications, oversee protection and SCADA systems, and mentor junior engineers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 7–15+ years’ post‑graduate experience in HV/EHV electrical engineering.
  • RPEQ/RPEV registration or eligibility.
  • Chartered status at Associate level.
  • Experience in consultancy, HV infrastructure, data centres, and renewable energy projects.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide clear, robust advice to clients.

Responsibilities

  • Lead HV design for transmission & distribution substations, HV infrastructure, and data centre projects.
  • Develop detailed specifications at project and equipment levels.
  • Apply knowledge of power system protection, SCADA, transmission lines, cables, and earthing design.
  • Support high-voltage scope for Owner’s Engineer and Technical Due Diligence projects.
  • Review and verify designs and reports prepared by peers.
  • Mentor junior engineers and champion technical excellence.
  • Drive Safety-in-Design and ensure compliance with legislation.
  • Collaborate across civil, structural, geotechnical, drafting, and control systems.
  • Undertake short-term site visits as needed.
  • Contribute to proposals and business development initiatives.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead HV (primary) design for transmission & distribution substations, HV infrastructure, and data centre projects—covering layouts, ratings, sizing, and technical oversight.
  • Develop detailed specifications at both project and equipment levels.
  • Apply knowledge of power system protection, SCADA systems, transmission lines, underground cables, and earthing design.
  • Support high-voltage scope for Owner’s Engineer and Technical Due Diligence projects.
  • Review and verify designs and reports prepared by peers.
  • Mentor junior engineers and champion technical excellence.
  • Drive Safety-in-Design (SID) and ensure compliance with legislative requirements.
  • Collaborate across disciplines—civil, structural, geotechnical, secondary, drafting, and control systems.
  • Undertake short‑term site visits as needed.
  • Contribute to proposals and business development initiatives.
About You
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 7–15+ years’ post‑graduate experience in HV/EHV electrical engineering.
  • RPEQ/RPEV registration or eligibility.
  • Proven engineering consultancy experience.
  • Chartered status at Associate level
  • Strong background in substation design, HV infrastructure, cable systems, transmission & distribution utilities, renewable energy projects, and/or data centres.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide clear, robust advice to clients.
  • Skilled in proposal and report writing.
