Job summary

WSP in Brisbane is seeking a Senior/Associate Electrical Engineer to lead multi-disciplinary projects in substations and data centres, focusing on HV design and energy networks.

You'll mentor engineers, ensure SID compliance, and collaborate across civil, structural, geotechnical and control systems, with occasional site visits and proposal support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and eligible for professional registration.
• 7–15+ years of post-graduate HV/EHV electrical engineering experience.
• RPEQ/RPEV registration or eligibility, Chartered status at Associate level.
• Strong background in substation design, HV infrastructure, and data centres.

Responsibilities

• Lead HV (primary) design for transmission & distribution substations, HV infrastructure, and data centre projects.
• Develop detailed project and equipment specifications.
• Apply knowledge of protection, SCADA, lines, cables, and earthing design.
• Support high-voltage scope for Owner's Engineer and Due Diligence projects.
• Review designs and reports prepared by peers.
• Mentor junior engineers and champion technical excellence.
• Drive Safety-in-Design (SID) and ensure compliance with legislation.
• Collaborate across disciplines and undertake site visits as needed.
• Contribute to proposals and business development initiatives.

What You'll Do

As a Senior or Associate Electrical Engineer, you'll own complex, multi-disciplinary projects, applying your expertise in substation design and high-voltage systems to shape the energy networks of tomorrow. In this role you will:

Lead HV (primary) design for transmission & distribution substations, HV infrastructure, and data centre projects—covering layouts, ratings, sizing, and technical oversight.

Develop detailed specifications at both project and equipment levels.

Apply knowledge of power system protection, SCADA systems, transmission lines, underground cables, and earthing design.

Support high-voltage scope for Owner's Engineer and Technical Due Diligence projects.

Review and verify designs and reports prepared by peers.

Mentor junior engineers and champion technical excellence.

Drive Safety-in-Design (SID) and ensure compliance with legislative requirements.

Collaborate across disciplines—civil, structural, geotechnical, secondary, drafting, and control systems.

Undertake short-term site visits as needed.

Contribute to proposals and business development initiatives.

About You

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.

7–15+ years’ post-graduate experience in HV/EHV electrical engineering.

RPEQ/RPEV registration or eligibility.

Chartered status at Associate level

Strong background in substation design, HV infrastructure, cable systems, transmission & distribution utilities, renewable energy projects, and/or data centres.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide clear, robust advice to clients.

Skilled in proposal and report writing.
