WSP Australia Pty Limited is seeking a Senior/Associate Electrical Engineer to lead HV design for substations and data centre projects. You will develop specifications, oversee protection schemes, and guide junior engineers while collaborating across disciplines.

The role offers hybrid work in Australia, with opportunities to influence major transmission & distribution initiatives and support business development for future-ready energy solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 7–15+ years’ post-graduate experience in HV/EHV electrical engineering.
• RPEQ/RPEV registration or eligibility.
• Chartered status at Associate level.
• Strong background in substation design, HV infrastructure, cable systems, and data centres.
• Excellent communication and report writing skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead HV design for transmission & distribution substations and data centre projects.
• Develop detailed specifications at project and equipment levels.
• Apply power system protection, SCADA, and earthing design knowledge.
• Support high-voltage scope for Owner’s Engineer and due diligence.
• Review designs and reports prepared by peers and mentor juniors.
• Drive Safety-in-Design and compliance with legislative requirements.
• Collaborate across civil, structural, geotechnical, drafting and control systems.
• Undertake short-term site visits as needed and contribute to proposals.

What You’ll Do In this role you will:

• Lead HV (primary) design for transmission & distribution substations, HV infrastructure, and data centre projects—covering layouts, ratings, sizing, and technical oversight.
• Develop detailed specifications at both project and equipment levels.
• Apply knowledge of power system protection, SCADA systems, transmission lines, underground cables, and earthing design.
• Support high-voltage scope for Owner’s Engineer and Technical Due Diligence projects.
• Review and verify designs and reports prepared by peers.
• Mentor junior engineers and champion technical excellence.
• Drive Safety-in-Design (SID) and ensure compliance with legislative requirements.
• Collaborate across disciplines—civil, structural, geotechnical, secondary, drafting, and control systems.
• Undertake short-term site visits as needed.
• Contribute to proposals and business development initiatives.

About You

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 7–15+ years’ post-graduate experience in HV/EHV electrical engineering.
• RPEQ/RPEV registration or eligibility.
• Chartered status at Associate level
• Strong background in substation design, HV infrastructure, cable systems, transmission & distribution utilities, renewable energy projects, and/or data centres.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide clear, robust advice to clients.
• Skilled in proposal and report writing.
