Job summary

Cairns Regional Council is seeking a Senior Asset Management Officer to lead asset management across buildings, facilities and infrastructure. You will ensure asset integrity, safety compliance, and lifecycle planning through inspection programs, condition assessments and maintenance planning.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Building and Construction, or equivalent qualification relevant to the role.
• Current C Class Driver’s Licence for travel between council sites.
• Knowledge of building and services legislation and Australian Standards.
• Ability to develop and manage programs for assessing structural integrity, safety and compliance.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships.
• Experience leading a team in planning and achieving performance goals.

Responsibilities

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Asset Management Officer to join our team and play a critical role in ensuring our buildings, facilities, and infrastructure remain safe, compliant, and fit for purpose.

What You Will Do:

The Senior Asset Management Officer is responsible for leading and supporting key asset management functions across a diverse portfolio of facilities, buildings, and infrastructure assets. The role focuses on ensuring asset integrity, compliance, and operational performance through the development and delivery of inspection programs, condition assessments, defect identification, and maintenance planning. Working closely with the Strategic Asset Management and Planning (SAMP) team, asset owners, maintenance teams, contractors, and other stakeholders, the position plays a pivotal role in informing preventative maintenance strategies, capital investment decisions, and long‑term asset lifecycle planning.

This role combines technical expertise, strategic thinking, stakeholder engagement, and data‑driven decision‑making to ensure assets continue to meet operational requirements, legislative obligations, and community expectations.

What We Are Looking For:

• Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Building and Construction, or equivalent qualification relevant to the role.
• Current C Class Driver’s Licence to allow for travel between council sites.
• Detailed knowledge of relevant building and services legislation and Australian Standards and the proven ability to apply these to the relevant situations.
• Ability to develop and manage programs targeted at assessing structural integrity, safety compliance, and legislative compliance.
• Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build internal/external customer relationships
• Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team in the planning, prioritisation, and achievement of performance goals
