Job summary

Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action VIC (DEECA) in Melbourne seeks a Senior Assessor, Resources Projects, to lead assessments of complex and high-risk resources projects across Victoria, including minerals, mining, quarrying and petroleum. You will provide expert technical and regulatory guidance to enable timely, risk-based decisions within a multi-agency environment.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated expertise and experience in a similar assessments function within a regulator, preferably in the earth resources or heavy industries or experience within the resources industry with firsthand knowledge of risk management, government regulation and/or technical report writing.
• Industry, government or consulting experience in the mining, quarrying or petroleum sector with practical experience assessing applications for (design, development, operation and decommissioning) mining or quarrying sites.
• Proven ability to make sound judgments based on evidence, with a demonstrated record of identifying practical solutions to complex problems and delivery of complex projects.
• Understanding of risk management principles and experience in the development of risk management plans, preferably in the earth resources or heavy industries, with an ability to make sound judgments based on evidence and outcome-based risk management.
• A tertiary qualification in a relevant field would be well regarded.

Responsibilities

• Lead assessment of complex and high-risk resources projects in Victoria.
