Job summary

Southern Rural Water is seeking a Senior Assessment Officer for a full-time limited-term role until the end of January 2027. The position is negotiable across SRW major offices in Maffra, Werribee and Mitcham, offering a patient, customer-focused environment with flexible arrangements.

You will assess licensing applications, provide guidance to Assessment Officers, and ensure timely, compliant decisions with strong administrative support and clear communication.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in an administration based role.
• Excellent communication skills to address a variety of customer queries and accurately convey information.
• Ability to interpret, apply and communicate requirements of relevant policy and guidelines.
• Effective time management skills to ensure applications are completed promptly within agreed upon timeframes.
• Ability to provide support and guidance to Assessment Officers.

Responsibilities

• Assess licensing applications for regulated districts and unregulated surface water and groundwater, ensuring accuracy and completion within agreed timeframes.
• Case managing and preparing recommendations for decision by the Team Leader Customer Experience and/or Manager Water Licensing, including gathering relevant information and preparing correspondence.
• Reviewing recommendations prepared by Assessment Officers to ensure accuracy, consistency and compliance with relevant requirements before they are escalated for a decision.
• Approving licensing applications and information statements in accordance with relevant delegations.
• Helping customers and other staff to understand licensing application requirements and processes.

About the Role

Southern Rural Water is seeking a motivated Senior Assessment Officer to join our Customer Experience team until the end of January 2027!

As the Senior Assessment Officer, you will be responsible for assessing and determining licensing applications, including complex applications requiring a strong understanding of relevant legislation, policies and procedures. You will also support the Team Leader Customer Experience by contributing to the improvement of customer focused processes and ensuring applications are assessed consistently and efficiently.

As a senior member of the team, you will review recommendations prepared by Assessment Officers, provide guidance on complex applications, and act as their first point of escalation.

This opportunity will suit an individual with excellent communication skills, administration experience and the ability to adhere to policies and procedures.

As the Senior Assessment Officer, some of your responsibilities will include:
