Job summary

The Recruitment Hive Pty Ltd is seeking a Senior API Integration Developer for a Australian Government department. The role is Canberra and Sydney onsite, on a 12 + 12 month contract with ASAP start.

You will design, build, test and support API-led and event-driven integrations, collaborating across departments and external services. Responsibilities include implementing cloud-native integration solutions, applying modern engineering and DevSecOps practices, and enabling secure, scalable service

Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Software Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience designing, developing and supporting API-led and event-driven integration solutions using microservices.
• Experience with REST APIs, JSON/XML, OpenAPI/Swagger, API gateways and service integration patterns.
• Cloud-native integration solutions using messaging and event-driven technologies; familiarity with Docker/Kubernetes and modern languages.

Our client, a department of the Australian Government responsible for consolidating the Government’s efforts to drive economic growth, productivity and competitiveness by bringing together industry, energy, resources and science, require the services of a Senior API Integration Developer.

Duties:

• Design, develop, test, deploy and support API-led and event-driven integration solutions that enable secure and scalable communication between departmental applications, platforms and external services.
• Implement integration solutions using cloud-native services, messaging technologies and event-driven patterns to support business transformation initiatives, platform modernisation and service delivery outcomes.
• Apply modern engineering and AI delivery practices, including AI enabled software development lifecycle (SDLC), DevSecOps, CI/CD, observability, automated testing and platform engineering standards that support secure, scalable and reliable service delivery.
• Support the adoption of modern engineering practices, including microservices and event-driven architecture, API first design, platform engineering and reusable integration patterns.

Skills and Experience:

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Software Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience designing, developing and supporting API led and event-driven integration solutions using microservices architecture. REST APIs, JSON/XML data interchange, OpenAPI/Swagger specifications, API gateways and service integration patterns.
• Demonstrated experience delivering cloud-native integration solutions using API management platforms, messaging and event-driven technologies, containerisation and orchestration platforms, and modern programming languages. Experience with technologies such as REST APIs, OpenAPI/Swagger, Kafka, RabbitMQ, Service Bus, Event Grid, Docker, Kubernetes, .NET, Java, Node.js or Python is highly regarded.
• Demonstrated experience implementing secure integration and identity solutions using OAuth2, OpenID Connect, JWT based authentication, enterprise or government identity providers, managed identities and secure service to service communication. Experience applying CI/CD, automated testing, DevSecOps, observability, platform automation and AI-enabled software delivery practices.
