This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your expertise in a critical area of risk management, helping to protect the bank and our customers from financial crime. We are currently recruiting a creative and data-driven professional to join our Group Risk function.

As a Senior Analyst in our specialist Financial Crime Data Analytics & AI team, you’ll make an impact by:

  • Driving Innovation: You won’t just be coding, you’ll help shape the strategic direction of financial crime prevention by using emerging technologies, advanced analytics, and AI.

  • Creating Advanced Solutions: Design, develop, and embed new detection scenarios, machine learning models, and data-based solutions to identify and mitigate financial crime threats.

  • Uncovering Critical Insights: Mine vast and complex data sets to identify emerging patterns and trends, translating your findings into actionable strategies for the business.

  • Collaborating for Impact: Partner with experts across Financial Crime, Technology, and Operations to enhance our detection capabilities and embed robust, data-driven solutions.

About the role

The Senior Analyst, Financial Crime Data Analytics & AI reports to the Senior Manager, AML/CTF Data, Analytics & AI. In this key specialist role, you will be instrumental in safeguarding the bank by designing and implementing the data, analytics and AI solutions used to detect and prevent financial crime. You will go beyond just responding to requests by actively shaping how we innovate and improve our capabilities. By turning data into intelligence, you will help protect our customers and the community from the significant harm caused by financial crime.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Detection Enhancement: Analyse all available data to develop and improve solutions that detect, prevent, and mitigate financial crime threats and typologies.

  • Analytics & Innovation: Utilise emerging technologies like AI to enhance detection, perform data mining to identify trends, and produce insights for proactive prevention strategies.

  • Governance: Partner with Line 1 to develop and maintain frameworks that ensure all analytics and detection rules are well-governed, compliant, and implemented effectively.

  • Project Support: Lead the discovery and estimation for analytics implementation related to new products and systems, and influence the design of broader projects and initiatives.

What you’ll bring to the role

Essential:

  • Strong understanding of data analytics, advanced analytics, and detection scenario development.

  • Excellent programming and database skills, with strong proficiency in SQL.

  • The ability to translate complex data and technical requirements to a broad set of non-technical stakeholders.

  • A curious and enquiring mind, with proven problem-solving and time management skills.

  • A degree in a relevant STEM field or equivalent professional experience.

Highly desirable:

  • Experience with Python.

  • Experience in a similar role in a highly regulated industry like banking or finance.

  • Experience with analytical tools such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP), R, or data visualisation platforms.

  • Familiarity with common financial crime systems (e.g., NICE Actimize, NetReveal, SAS).

  • Post-graduate studies or certifications in Data, Data Science, or Risk.

This is a permanent full-time position located in Melbourne, Bendigo, Adelaide, or Sydney.
