Job summary

Westpac Group is hiring a Senior AI Engineer to design, build and operate AI agents and shared platforms at enterprise scale. You will lead 3–6 engineers, coaching design reviews and advancing guardrails across AI and LLM operations.

You will work across agent orchestration, tool calling, RAG, evaluation and observability in a hybrid role, preferably based in Sydney or Melbourne with flexibility for other locations by agreement.

Qualifications

• Experience building generative AI applications or agents in production.
• Working knowledge of AWS and Azure, including Kubernetes (AKS/EKS).
• Ability to diagnose complex issues across code, models, data, networks and infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Lead 3–6 direct reports to design, build and operate AI agents, shared platforms and APIs.
• Develop enterprise integrations and toolchains at scale with observability and guardrails.
• Coach engineers, lead design and code reviews and strengthen AI/LLM engineering practices.
