Job summary

Ampol Limited is seeking a senior software engineer to design, build, and operate agentic pipelines that connect AI agents with our CI/CD lifecycle. This role spans wiring agent harnesses into CI/CD workflows and ensuring production-grade delivery.

You will own the orchestration layer across foundation models, define agent boundaries, and mentor teams while operating in a hybrid environment with competitive remuneration and broad benefits.

Qualifications

• Background as a full-stack, cloud-native developer with end-to-end delivery experience.
• Proficiency in TypeScript, .NET, and React with strict typing.
• Experience with PaaS, serverless compute, and IaC (Bicep or Terraform).
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps).
• Experience with agentic frameworks (CrewAI, Semantic Kernel, OpenAI Agents SDK).
• Ability to lead, influence, and mentor teams.

Responsibilities

• Define agent personas, tool boundaries, and interfaces between agents and internal systems.
• Build automated QA environments and feedback loops into delivery data.
• Enforce linting, type checking, security scanning, and regression testing.
• Ensure boundaries are typed and gates blocked by default.
• Codify reusable agent definitions and pipeline templates for org-wide use.
• Mentor engineers in agentic engineering and modern SDLC practices.
• Collaborate with teams to embed agentic workflows and end-to-end delivery.
• Run uplift sessions and communities of practice.
• Champion engineering standards and governance for speed with trust.
• Measure success by capability retained across teams.

About the role:

You will design, build, andoperatethe agentic engineering pipelines that connect AI agents to our software delivery lifecycle. This means wiring agent harnesses - whether IDE-embedded copilots, CLI-driven coding agents, or custom orchestration runtimes - into CI/CD workflows, from automated brief decomposition and code generation through to PR review, QA gate execution, and deployment.

You will own the orchestration layer: how agents are dispatched across foundation models (Claude, GPT, Gemini, open-weight alternatives), how work items flow through stages, how governance guardrails are enforced, and how delivery quality is measured. The role sits at the intersection of platform engineering and AI enablement — you are not building the models, you are building the infrastructure that makes them deliver production-grade software — and then ensuring that infrastructure is adopted and scaled across teams.

KeyResponsibilities

• Define agent personas, tool boundaries, and typed interfaces between agents and internal systems
• Build automated QA environments and feedback loops that feed delivery data back into agent context
• Hold agent output to the same engineeringrigouras human output — linting, type checking, security scanning, regression testing
• Ensure every boundary is typed, every error surfaced, and every unevaluatable gate blocks by default
• Codify reusable agent definitions, engineering standards, pipeline templates, and MCP modules for org-wide adoption
• Mentor engineers at all levels in agentic engineering and modern SDLC practices
• Pair with teams to embed agentic workflows and build end-to-end delivery ownership
• Run uplift sessions, communities of practice, and retrospectives
• Champion engineering standards and governance that enable speed without breaking trust
• Measure success by the capability teamsretain, not just what's shipped

Qualifications & Experience

• Background as a full-stack, cloud-native developer. Ideallyyou’vebuilt and shippedsystems end to end across the full stack(.Net, React/Node/TypeScript)
• TypeScript, .NET, and React fluency -strict typing, typed boundaries, no shortcuts. You understand why an untyped API boundary between an agent and a databaseis a latent defect
• PaaS and serverless compute (Azure Functions, App Service, Container Apps), containerised workloads, infrastructure-as-code (Bicep or Terraform), and CI/CD pipeline design (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps)
• Experience with at least one agentic framework (CrewAI, Semantic Kernel, OpenAI Agents SDK, Claude Agent SDK, Spec Kit, or native tool-use loops via any of the recognised harnesses and foundation models)
• Proven ability to lead, influence, and mentor. You've upliftedend-to-end capability in teams, not just code.You’vecoached engineers across experience levels, championed engineering practices, and left teams stronger than you found them
