Job summary

Specialist SEND Group in St Helens is seeking a dedicated Behaviour Mentor to support primary-aged pupils with challenging behaviour and help them engage with learning.

You will work closely with teachers to provide consistent, nurturing approaches, build positive relationships with pupils, and help young people develop confidence, resilience and focus. This is a rewarding role where no two days are the same and where you can make a real difference.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with children or young people.
  • Experience supporting young people with challenging behaviour.
  • A Level 2 or above Teaching Assistant qualification.
  • The ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
  • A consistent and nurturing approach to behaviour management.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A positive attitude and willingness to work as part of a wider school team.
  • Team Teach qualification would be highly desirable, but is not essential.

Responsibilities

We are looking for a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Mentor to join a welcoming mainstream primary school, supporting pupils who may require additional help with their behaviour, emotional regulation and engagement with learning.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who genuinely wants to support young people to overcome barriers and reach their full potential.

The Role

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will work closely with pupils who may display challenging behaviour, helping them to develop positive behaviours, build confidence and engage successfully within the school environment.

You will work alongside teachers and the wider school team to provide consistent, supportive and nurturing approaches to behaviour.

The successful candidate will be someone who is calm, patient, confident and resilient, with the ability to build positive relationships with young people while maintaining clear and appropriate boundaries.

We Are Looking For

  • The confidence and resilience to manage challenging situations calmly and effectively.
  • A Level 2 or above Teaching Assistant qualification.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A positive attitude and willingness to work as part of a wider school team.
