Job summary

Helix Technology Services is seeking a Security Engineer to join a secured engagement with a national security partner in Canberra. You will solve complex security challenges as part of a team and leverage technology to deliver world-class outcomes for critical intelligence and national security customers.

The role involves developing and operating IT security systems, reviewing controls, monitoring security logs, and guiding staff on security implementations.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Develop and operate IT security systems: firewalls, IDS/IPS, WAF, content filtering, API security, DDoS protection, proxies, EDR, NDR, user behavior analytics, vulnerability scanning, secrets management, IAM, app whitelisting, device control, PKI and encryption.
• Review current system security controls and implement remedial actions.
• Develop and operate systems to monitor and analyse security logs and event information.
• Develop and operate systems for security automation.
• Guide technical staff on implementation of security controls.
• Support, plan and conduct test and evaluation activities for deliverable systems and products.

• Develop and operate IT security systems: next generation firewalls, intrusion detection, web application firewalls, content filtering, API security, DDoS protection, proxies, endpoint detection and response, network detection and response, user behaviour analytics, vulnerability scanning, secrets management, identity and access control systems, application whitelisting, device control, Public Key Infrastructure and encryption solutions
• Review current system security controls and implement remedial actions

Security Engineer desirable experience & capability:

• Lead the design, build, test and operation of security systems within a complex IT network
• Lead the Public Key Infrastructure technologies, processes and procedures.
• Perform threat and risk assessments
• Develop and manage security control baselines
• Guide technical staff on implementation of security controls
• Conduct control compliance audits
• Plan and supervise vulnerability assessments and penetration testing
• Develop a plan for ongoing security actions and milestones
• Manage regular security testing and monitoring
• Ensure access to IT systems is limited to role and user needs
• Establish an incident response plan and supporting playbooks
• Manage, develop and implement IT security policies and documentation that meet customer requirements
