Job summary

ScrumCraft is seeking a seasoned Scrum Master to join our Adelaide-based R&D team, guiding cross-functional squads through the full product development lifecycle, from backlog refinement to release delivery.

You will coach teams in agile principles, shield them from organisational noise, and ensure Product Owners and engineers stay aligned from strategy to execution in a fast-moving electromechanical product environment.

Qualifications

• Experience as Scrum Master or Agile Project Manager in a product development/engineering/R&D environment.
• Strong understanding of Scrum and Kanban frameworks with practical facilitation experience.
• Ability to manage backlog complexity, resolve competing priorities, and maintain clear delivery cadences.
• Excellent coaching, facilitation, and stakeholder communication across technical and non-technical audiences.
• Familiar with planning/tracking/visual management tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, Trello or similar.
• Experience with scaled agile environments (e.g. SAFe, Scrum at Scale, Nexus, LeSS).
• Formal agile certification is highly regarded.
• Background in change management or coaching teams through agile adoption.

Role Description

This full-time, on-site role based in Adelaide, SA sits at the heart of a product-focused R&D function within a leading manufacturer of residential electromechanical products. Embedded within an agile squad structure, you will guide one or more cross-functional teams through the full product development lifecycle - from backlog refinement and sprint planning through to high-value release delivery.

The role suits an experienced Scrum Master or Agile Project Manager who brings a working understanding of electromechanical or hardware product environments and knows how to translate complex technical dependencies into clear priorities, cadences and outcomes. You will operate as a servant leader - coaching teams in agile principles, shielding squads from organisational noise, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring the Product Owner and engineering stakeholders stay aligned from strategy through to execution.

What You'll Be Doing

Delivery & Backlog Management

• Partner with Product Owners to maintain strategy and execution alignment across the squad's backlog.
• Guide the squad to focus on creating high-value, well-scoped releases and assist with feature estimation and prioritisation.
• Provide regular progress visibility and proactively escalated impediments to keep delivery on track.
• Adapt delivery frameworks to squad needs - blending Scrum, Kanban, or hybrid approaches to manage both development and maintenance workstreams.
• Own and facilitate all squad rituals: sprint planning, daily standups, reviews, retrospectives, and backlog refinement.
• Ensure meaningful participation from Product Owners, engineers, and key stakeholders at each event.
• Create an environment where retrospectives drive genuine follow-through, not just conversation.
• Map and manage interfaces between squads - products, integrations, sub-assemblies - and propose effective synchronisation strategies.
• Facilitate productive relationships between Product Owners, squad members, and broader business stakeholders across R&D, engineering and product teams.
• Support decision-making on scope, schedule commitment, and trade-off resolution.

Coaching & Continuous Improvement

• Coach squad members in agile values, principles, and practices - building capability and self-management over time.
• Champion a culture of continuous improvement, challenging the status quo and enabling efficiency gains across the delivery cycle.
• Establish and maintain relevant KPIs, visual management tools, and reporting on backlog health, risk, and delivery progress.
• Identify, elevate, and help resolve obstacles that impact squad momentum or output quality.
• Ensure the squad has the trust, support and organisational access needed to operate effectively.
• Understand the downstream impact of blockers and implement timely, effective risk responses.

Essential Experience and Skills

• Demonstrated experience as a Scrum Master or Agile Project Manager in a product development, engineering, or R&D environment.
• Solid understanding of Scrum and Kanban frameworks with practical experience facilitating squad rituals and ceremonies.
• Ability to manage backlog complexity, resolve competing priorities, and maintain clear delivery cadences.
• Strong coaching, facilitation, and stakeholder communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
• Comfortable working with digital agile tools for planning, tracking, and visual management (e.g. Jira, Azure DevOps, Trello, or similar).
• Proven ability to identify impediments, create urgency, and drive resolution without disrupting squad momentum.
• Exposure to electromechanical, electrical, or hardware product development environments.
• Familiarity with R&D delivery contexts, including product lifecycle management, design iteration, and release governance.
• Experience working within scaled agile environments (e.g. Scrum at Scale, SAFe, Nexus, or LeSS).
• Formal Scrum Master or agile certification (e.g. RSM, CSM, PSM, SAFe SM, AgilePM, PMI-ACP).
• Background in change management or coaching teams through adoption of agile practices.
• Experience managing inter-squad dependencies or coordinating delivery across multiple agile teams.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in engineering, science, project management, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience in a product development or technical environment.
• Formal training or certification in agile delivery frameworks is highly regarded.
• Ongoing commitment to professional development in agile practices, team coaching, or product delivery.
