Job summary

Queensland Health is seeking a skilled histology professional in Brisbane to perform routine and specialised tissue processing, embedding, staining and analysis to support diagnostic pathology.

You will work within a team, participate in rostered shifts, maintain accreditation standards and contribute to ongoing education and service improvement initiatives.

• Demonstrated ability in a range of histological applications from routine tissue management through embedding, microtomy, stains and frozen section protocols.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in histology laboratory tasks.

• Roster availability across operating hours.

• Perform broad range of histological procedures on surgical and autopsy specimens.

Job description

In this role, you will perform a broad range of routine and specialised histological procedures on surgical and autopsy specimens to identify pathological features essential for diagnosis. You will exercise independent scientific judgement in the analysis of patient specimens, ensuring the verification and validation of test results and providing specialist advice to clinical units when required.

The essential requirements for this role are;

• Demonstrated ability in a range of histological applications from routine tissue management through to the application of advanced methods and technologies including embedding, microtomy, routine special stains and advanced complex special stains, urgent frozen section protocols and specimen dissection.
• Demonstrated high levels of attention to detail and accuracy in performing tasks within a histology laboratory.
• Demonstrated ability (or ability to rapidly acquire the skill) to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation / certification.
• Proven willingness and ability to actively participate in and contribute to continuing education and other professional development activities.
• Proven ability to work and communicate effectively within a team environment to achieve the goals of the work unit including the meeting of critical deadlines.
• Availability to participate in a roster system across the operating hours of the department.
