Job summary

Queensland Health on the Sunshine Coast is seeking a laboratory support professional to assist with receipt of specimens and data entry into the laboratory information system. duties include processing specimens in Central Specimen Reception and maintaining a clean, compliant lab environment.

You will prioritise tasks to meet service deadlines and engage with supervisory staff for changes in work practices while upholding NATA/ISO standards and Queensland Health safety policies.

Responsibilities

  • Receive specimens and register requests into the laboratory information system.
  • Process specimens in Central Specimen Reception and other departments.
  • Maintain the laboratory environment and restock consumables.
  • Prioritise tasks to meet service delivery deadlines.
  • Respond to client enquiries with effective communication.
  • Adhere to accreditation and QA procedures including NATA/ISO.
  • Follow policies including Code of Conduct and safety policies.

Job description

  • Perform general laboratory duties, including the receipt of specimens and registration of requests into the laboratory information system (basic keyboard/data entry skills).
  • Perform specific laboratory duties in the Central Specimen Reception and other departments of the laboratory as required, including the processing of specimens relative to the department.
  • Adherence to Pathology Queensland patient identification, labelling, collecting and processing policies at all times.
  • Maintenance of the laboratory environment including cleaning and restocking of consumables.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks in order to meet service delivery deadlines.
  • Ability to respond to enquiries and instruction by clients by demonstrating effective communication skills.
  • Actively seek the advice or approval of supervisory staff in relation to changes in work practices.
  • Comply with National Association of Testing Authority/International Standardisation Organisation (NATA/ISO) accreditation/certification requirements including performing quality control procedures, assisting with preparation of procedure manuals and completion of relevant statistics.
  • Comply with and utilise procedures, policies, regulations, and standards which impact upon the position including Queensland Health Code of Conduct, contemporary human resource management requirements and practices, such as workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination policy.

We are searching for someone with:

  • Demonstrated experience in the interpretation of request forms, data entry and of the correct procedures for specimen processing.
  • High level interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively and work productively in a team environment.
  • Proven ability to follow instructions and work conscientiously and accurately with minimal supervision after careful instruction.
  • Demonstrated experience of the correct procedures for the performance of laboratory tests including processing and setting up techniques within the department.
  • Ability to actively participate in a working environment supporting quality human resource management practices including employment equity, anti-discrimination, occupational health and safety and ethical behaviour.
