Job summary

Dorevitch Pathology invites a multiskilled Scientist to join our Bairnsdale laboratory on a part-time basis. The role spans Blood Banking, Haematology, Coagulation and Biochemistry, with six shifts per fortnight and on-call duties.

You will perform diagnostic testing, maintain quality standards, and support stock control and equipment upkeep. A strong QC/QAP background and the ability to work independently are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science or equivalent in Medical Laboratory Science.
• Experience across Blood Banking, Haematology, Coagulation and Biochemistry.
• Sound knowledge of QC, QAP and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Perform manual and automated diagnostic testing across disciplines.
• Manage routine procedures from specimen reception to results reporting.
• Assist with stock control and inventory management.
• Maintain records and ensure equipment calibration and maintenance.
• Contribute to quality assurance activities and participate in training.

About The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a multiskilled Scientist to join our high performing team in the laboratory at Bairnsdale on a part time basis. The Scientist will have a deep understanding and a skillset across various disciplines of Blood Banking, Haematology, Coagulation, Biochemistry.

This is a part-time position working a 45.6 hour fortnight across six shifts with the involvement in the oncall roster.

who will be responsible for:

• Performing manual and automated diagnostic testing
• Performing all routine procedures from point of specimen reception to execution of results for Pathological diagnosis
• Assisting with Stock Control
• Compliance with records maintenance and recording of results in line with protocols
• Maintaining all equipment and operating equipment in line with protocols
• Maintaining current scientific knowledge
• Participating in both routine and audit related Quality Assurance activities
• Contributing to continuous improvement and the development of new assays as required
• Participating in training staff
• Liaising with internal and/ or external stakeholders (referring practitioners) regarding test results or referrals as necessary
• Compliance and adherence with Policies and Procedures, Workplace Health and Safety Procedures and Quality Assurance Processes.

About You

To be considered for this position, you will need to meet the essential requirements:

• Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or equivalent
• Demonstrated experience, knowledge, expertise and skills within the respective discipline
• Sound knowledge of QC, QAP and troubleshooting
• Demonstrated ability to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification
• Ability to perform duties with a high degree of independence and with infrequent supervision
• An outstanding commitment to quality and excellence
• A willingness to adhere to departmental and organisational policies and procedures
• A positive attitude toward achieving outcomes and being a cohesive, contributing team member
