Job summary

QML Pathology, a Healius business in Brisbane, has an exciting part-time multiskilled Scientist role in the laboratory. The position requires an AIMS-accredited degree with Haematology, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Transfusion Science, and offers a minimum 40 hours per fortnight across a 24-hour roster.

You will perform diagnostic testing, maintain quality records, assist with stock control and training, and work with a supportive team committed to accuracy and patient care.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent in Medical Laboratory Science.
  • Experience in Haematology, Biochemistry, Microbiology or Transfusion Science preferred.
  • AIMS-accredited degree required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform manual and automated diagnostic testing.
  • Process from specimen reception to results for pathological diagnosis.
  • Assist with stock control.
  • Maintain records and QA in line with protocols.
  • Maintain equipment and operate in line with protocols.
  • Maintain current scientific knowledge.
  • Participate in QA and continuous improvement activities.
  • Contribute to training staff.
  • Liaise with practitioners regarding test results or referrals.

Job description

Location:30 Chasely Street, Auchenflower QLD 4066 (The Wesley Hospital)

Work type:Part Time (Max Term)20.00 hours per week

Schedule: The position is for a minimum of 40 hours per Fortnight (Monday-Sunday) with shifts covering a 24hour roster and will include rolling rosters and public holiday shifts. Extra hours will also be available.

About The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a multiskilled Scientist to join our high performing team in the laboratory on a part time basis. Applicants shall possess an AIMS accredited degree with areas of study including Haematology, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Transfusion Science.

We are seeking an experienced Scientist who is highly motivated to become part of a passionate and engaged team who will be responsible for:

  • Performing manual and automated diagnostic testing
  • Performing all routine procedures from point of specimen reception to execution of results for Pathological diagnosis
  • Assisting with Stock Control
  • Compliance with records maintenance and recording of results in line with protocols
  • Maintaining all equipment and operating equipment in line with protocols
  • Maintaining current scientific knowledge
  • Participating in both routine and audit related Quality Assurance activities
  • Contributing to continuous improvement and the development of new assays as required
  • Participating in training staff
  • Liaising with internal and/ or external stakeholders (referring practitioners) regarding test results or referrals as necessary
  • Compliance and adherence with Policies and Procedures, Workplace Health and Safety Procedures and Quality Assurance Processes.
About You

To be considered for this position, you will need to meet the essential requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience, knowledge, expertise and skills within the respective discipline
  • Sound knowledge of QC, QAP and troubleshooting
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification
  • Ability to perform duties with a high degree of independence and with infrequent supervision
  • An outstanding commitment to quality and excellence
  • A willingness to adhere to departmental and organisational policies and procedures
  • A positive attitude toward achieving outcomes and being a cohesive, contributing team member
  • Strong time management, interpersonal, communication and organisational skills

  • This role may require additional vaccination history and evidence for department specific vaccine preventative diseases
